If You No Longer Enjoy The Game

When did you stop enjoying it and what keeps you coming back for more? Is it nostalgia? Is it addiction? Is it the time sunk fallacy?

I’m just genuinely curious to know how someone has more post counts than they have achievement points and their character is still stuck at level 70 as they sit and complain about the game in general. What keeps you here and what prevents you from moving forward and finding a new game?

I mean, genuine feedback is one thing. But some of these threads are just absolutely crashing out with the most innocuous of problems and when challenged the OP just gets defensive. So what is it really?

I mean, I think we’re talking about more than just the void elf warlock who is known for having more threads than they are posts  at the end of the day that guy is just a click bait troll.

I mean, the other one to think about is the gnome and her army of alts who make a post complaining about everything under the sun and then when they do bother to respond in the thread, they act very casual like nothing’s wrong with the game. It makes you wonder what’s going through their mind.

I assume that most people who are playing a game, maintain a sub either with cash or gold grinding, and are invested in the game enough to hangout on its forums probably actually like the game a lot.

We just live in a world where boredom is solved by trolling and/or hunting for validation from notifications and likes.

Nostalgia did play a role in me coming back after loathing BfA… but for when I stop enjoying the game?

The crash-out from the game typically starts shortly after I collect the “thing” I wanted (often transmog items, Fyr’alath about a month and a half ago being the last notable thing) and I’m forced to contend with the fact I completely and utterly DESPISE WoW’s endgame systems. It’s quite literally a case of running out of reasons to put up with that crap.

I enjoy the gameplay.
I enjoy unlocking abilities as I level up.
I enjoy exploring the vast world.
I enjoy questing and the smaller stories.

I hate repeatable content.
I hate gearing for gearing’s sake.

So it’s a bit complicated, you could say. WoW has potential, but Blizz keeps ruining it by ignoring what makes an actual RPG good to double-down on the grind.

Nothing stopping me from moving on (FFXIV has a new patch, got to finish Bananza, other hobbies) though I do feel the need to vent my frustrations with my remaining time left.

Almost as if they are trolling. Everyday is a weekend day in their world.

The basic premise of this post is that a large part of the playerbase continues to pay for the game despite the fact that they no longer are enjoying it. The reality is that the people who are still paying for the game are doing so because they still find it entertaining. The ones who have stopped enjoying it have already quit.

Ah, I see the issue. The OP has decided that any level 70 character is by his definition not enjoying the game. As far as he is concerned the only “genuine feedback” is posts that go into great depth on how wonderful the game is and how perfect its design.

Hilarious that this thread was started by someone who is stuck at level 55 and hates the playerbase so much that he wants a big chunk of it to quit, even though they enjoy it enough that they continue to pay and play.

My enjoyment has waxed and wanted over the years. I think right now it’s on the lower end of that.

Usually, if it consistently stays low, I’ll just take a break until I feel the itch again.

For me it’s that video games quality in general have gone down hill, they are not competing creativity wise, they are competing how can we do the least effort but make the most money wise.

Microwave gaming/story telling. Make it look shiny enough to grab and try.

WoW still has the “roots” of when games were sweaty creativity wise that you can revisit, the other game I go back to is GW2 which like wow has good roots but new content is bleh, but ya…I dunno…obviously the gold/free resubs makes it easier to try and give it a shot again everyonce in a while, it’s a hope that the “magic of it” came back, since can’t find it else where nowadays I guess.

I 100% come here for Boredumb, no I’m kidding, sorry Boredumb! Why do or did I keep coming back? Mostly people, and considering what folks have turned into the last little bit from SL onward? Yeah I’m just here waiting on housing, just about everyone I know is just done with TWW, they moved on to Classic or another game or are just here for raid or die.

Only the boring and bottom of the barrel folks are left, my actual engagement is just kinda hanging by a thread.

I have seven level 80s in the retail account but since most people end up using a classic alt for the forum, I just figured it was appropriate. I don’t do endgame content. I gear high enough to hit heroics and LFR and then I relax with role-play and some occasional farming. I enjoy the game immensely and have never been unsubbed since January 2006.”, minus one 3 day weekend where I was in Vegas and didn’t realize my sub had expired. Now I just pay for the six month and one year subscriptions in advance, so I never have to think about it.
