Either the Bible has an extended directors cut, or Supernatural has a book. Or you meant “watch,” not read. Either way, I’m fully confused.
Funny how the person complaining didn’t even know where it’s from. I really doubt the RP police will be able to force a name change in this case. Saying the name is “well known” to North American WoW players is a stretch. I often use a very similar name and wasn’t aware of the meaning behind Azrael, and I went to Christian and Catholic schools growing up.

Okay… I think I have a solid plan that will allow you to get your name, no cash payout required.
You log in, and start reporting the living crap out of this false Azrael person in order to force a change.
And when they do… BAM you take it for yourself.

This exactly. They can outright lock all names they don’t want to be created. Especially names printed in religious books. The naming policy is there to state an unlimited number of possibilities existing and yet to exist (MichaelJordan, StanLee, wizKhalifa, JoeTrombone).

Well, hopefully someone who got the name will be willing to let me have the name sooner than later. It’d be nice for launch day to arrive and have the name by then. And fortunately, it’s not like on retail where the name isn’t released until 90 days or something like that, and is instead released immediately. So fingers crossed. 
So if you were to ban all the names found in the Vedas, Koran, and new and old testaments of the Bible; I assume at least the English, Latin, Greek, Spanish, French, German, and Aramaic versions of the biblical names, you wouldn’t have many names left to use.

So has anyone here taken the name Azrael on any of the PVP forums? If so, I’d appreciate it if you’d be willing to help a brother out so I can recreate my main from Vanilla on the Classic servers. Thanks!

Good luck trying to FNC a name like that, as it is very much RP centric. It doesn’t matter what “lore” it may also share a name with.

If no one responds to your plea, the only thing I can suggest is use an asci character for one of your letters in your name, or, roll a quick character on each realm you would consider playing on, do a /who azrael and see what pops up, then reach out to that player nicely and see what options may be possible.
Yeah, that’s what I’ll probably have to do. Wait for launch day and start /whoing Azrael and see if I can find a person willing to give up the name.

I don’t have your name, but I do want to tell you my story to give you hope if you still haven’t gotten your name of choice.
My name is Luka, and this is the name I wanted for my main on Classic. My guild and I had already decided to roll on Grobbulus, the single RP PVP server.
Yesterday at exactly 3 PM PST, I was tirelessly trying to log in and reserve my name. Well, I finally got in 40-something minutes later…and my name was taken. I was devastated. So in my desperation, I sent out a plea in the Grobbulus Discord server to whoever took Luka, please message me. I figured I was yelling into the void as my message was quickly scrolled up by others having similar issues.
I made my peace with it though, and later that night I was at home when I got a message on Discord from someone who said they were the one who reserved Luka, but since it was for their alt they were willing to give it up to me because it meant more to me as my main.
I was completely and utterly astounded that someone would go out of their way to make my day like this. I could not believe it. I still can’t, even now as I have my chosen name reserved right now! I am so thankful to this person, and the best part is I will actually meet them later in game and perhaps even become friends.
That is the power of community, and just reinforces my belief that Classic will be an amazing experience like no other game can provide.

Azrael is a perfectly legitimate name on an RP server. It’s just a name and it is not referencing a well known person or character anymore than “John” or “Edward” do. If someone reports “Azrael” because it’s some biblical personage, then might as well start reporting all the Johns, Aarons, Lukes, etc.
