Sure, but real world names of significant personages are inappropriate on RP servers. They can have Azrael all they want… in their RP addon. If someone reports the real name, you’re gone.

Again, I’ve no horse in this race and really don’t care at all. Just trying to kill time until I’m out of work and figured I’d take up the other side on this for funsies 
I agree with you, I don’t think your name is a problem or don’t care enough to make it into one. I’m just trying to show you what people are going to point to when/if they were to report your name on an RP Server.

Examples of common unacceptable or disruptive RP names include (but are not limited to):
- Non-medieval or non-fantasy names (For example: Slipnslide, Robotman, Technotron)
- Names that reference well known people, characters, brands, places, or icons (For example: Britneyspears, Austinpowers, Mcdonalds, Georgewashington, Newyork)
- Names that consist of multiple words (For example: Inyourface, Welovebeef, Howareyou, Sixtyseventy)
The fact that people have these names now in Retail is an example of the degradation of the game quality over 15 years.

I am so sorry you didn’t get your name. I would be heartbroken if my name had been taken.
I hope someone is willing to sell it to you.
Also keep trying, someone may delete the name for another they want more.

To be clear though, if you did it on a PVE or PVP server, feel free, perfectly acceptable name.
Azrael isn’t a person so I guess he’s good to go. Decent stretch to try to label it as an icon.

Thanks. I had two other names that I wanted, and couldn’t get any of them on any server, but I’m not really bothered by that. I just wanted the name of my main on Classic. I’ve had this character since 2006 or so, and it would’ve been nice to replay him completely from the ground up in Classic, only doing it right (Like not stacking Intellect gear and equipping a sword and shield on a Ret Paladin 
).
Not a person, because mythological. Possibly a character.
But burdeon of proof on you to establish it as “well known.”

Using the name Azrael isn’t much different from using the name Lucifer. Pretty well known characters.

2.2 billion Christians in the world and if they’re even slightly devout they should know the name. Not to mention it is part of the Islamic and Jewish traditions.
What book is Azrael the character in?
How do you figure? Go up to any person, and 99% of them will recognize Lucifer but will have never heard of Azrael. Everyone knows the name Lucifer. Hardly anyone has heard the name Azrael.

Is an angel of death a character?
If you’re going to this level of petty a lot of people’s names are screwed. The reality of the matter is blizzard won’t touch this name. They’re going to go for names that have no RP sounding basis like the examples you linked.
Good luck trying to get it reported though.
