If you had to recommend a tank spec to a total tank noob, what would it be?

Blood Death Knight.

The simplest Tank to play as and Death’s Advance can literally ignore a lot of Boss mechanics.

Depends what you want to do DK are crazy strong ,warriors are good as well.

Death Knight, their kit makes it a lot easier to tank properly.

Warrior is great to learn the mechanics of tanking, but punishes bad Rage managment & cooldown usage. But I actually think this is a Good thing for a new tank, in order to learn.

Blood DK is very Simple. It’s leech and self heal focused with very little to worry about in way of ability management. Keep agro, hit stuff. Death Strike lots.

Bear Tank is the most simple mechanically. Prot war isn’t immensely harder and is the safest.

Coin flip between these 2.

If you’re really good at multi-tasking Prot Pal is really good to carry pugs though but its def harder to live on than the other 2.

Blood Death Knight because it’s uncomplicated and is easy to solo with.

Prot Paladin.
Sword and board, nothing complex, but a few more uh-oh buttons and self-heals than Prot Warrior.
Plus it’s super fun.

Warrior isn’t difficult, none of them are really, but it does have the highest APM of all tanks.

GDrood is still the easiest. You can be proficient with a mouse wheel macro…

Even the worst tank is fine for the vast majority of content.

If you’re doing casual content then don’t focus on the meta.

Prot Pally is the best beginner tank spec. Avengers Shield makes a lot of pulls easier for new tanks.

I will add that the only Macro a Blood Death Knight REALLY needs is the one that plants Death and Decay right at their feet.

It made my Blood tanking 9,001%+ better.

Only if you’re pushing heroic raids or M+15 or higher.

And on top of that, they just got some buffs with more on the way. Blizz is looking into it.

agreed, prot paladin is the asmr of all tank classes and playstyles. i love how they are just as much if not more ranged than they are melee. so satisfying.

I did a bunch of 20-21s yesterday with a Bear, he was doing fine.
