If you drink the Vial of Shifting Sands

…Are you now a dragon, or drake, or whatever? Or is it more a form of druidism? Is there an in-game explanation?

I think the explanation is that the potion temporarily lets you mimic a dragon.

The Vial is purely a game convention, there’s no lore behind it.

Build your own. Since my Druid is a member of the Artisans of Dragons guild, she interprets it as an advanced form of wildshape. I don’t generally use that mount on anyone but her… until recently.

Since I’ve had to use it so much as Drahliana of late, I interpret it as the Drakefire Amulet that some folks here might remember for the Onyxia attunment.

Every mount has lore behind it, however basic. They all have descriptions in the mount journal.

This is the Vial of Sands’:

Sandstone Drakes were studied in great detail long ago by the famed alchemist Walleye Sprysprocket. It has even been said that Walleye developed potions to mimic the drakes’ physiology.*

Moreover, since the recipe for the vial only comes from one place (a tol’vir archaeology solve) we can look at the description for the item containing it too:

This jar contains the petrified organs of Emperor Ninjter. He apparently died only a few years into what was hoped would be a glorious reign.

Why a tol’vir pharaoh had the recipe for an elixir developed by a gnome I’m not sure, but that’s what these together tell us.

It’s so inconsistent, I don’t take it seriously.

In my headcanon it’s like that botanica blood elf alchemist who turned himself into a tree. Weird alchemy
