For long-term players, imagine it was 2004 all over again - what five things would you do different?
For me:
Start earlier, and get a vanilla collector’s edition, along with all the other collectors editions I have.
Learn about raiding earlier, and get involved earlier. Started in mid-BC, didn’t raid until Cata (and yeah, I should have known better…)
Not roll an alt any time the thought struck me - instead, think them through and only roll alts for a purpose (I can’t get myself to delete alts I’ve leveled but never really played on current expansions)
Learned the AH and how to use it to make money instead of just spending money
Gotten into PVP sooner than BfA (I do enjoy PVP in BfA)
Honestly, I was so young back then that the entirety of it all was a learning experience to shape how I play today. I would definitely want the collector’s edition, but I wouldn’t be able to buy it myself…
Maybe I’d care more about character naming so I wouldn’t have to spend money down the line on my original toon, changing her name three times before finally settling on something
I started playing 11/23/2004. I started Molten Core the week it came out. I got through BWL, AQ40, and Naxx40 except for Saph & KT with my guilds before BC. I leveled an alt of every class to 60 within the first year of the game. I had all those alts except my main doing Tailoring and Alchemy transmutes to make gold on Cooldowns for Mooncloth & Arcanite every few days and supplied most of my servers Mooncloth for T3, so I made a lot of gold back then.
There’s really only one thing I would have done different if I could have gone back and done it over again.
I would have mained a Warrior instead of maining a Mage and having a Warrior as my primary alt. I would have then had the Mage as my primary alt and Warrior as my main.
For certain however, I would have bought all the epic tabards and the spectral tiger mount as soon as they came out though in BC.
I don’t think I would change anything. I didn’t even know about WoW until late 2008.
I had way too much going on in my life in Nov. 2004 (such as a PCS from Ft. Benning to Ft. Campbell) to have started playing then. And too much to deal with while my husband was in Iraq to have any time for gaming.
Maybe I should have made my own account at the start, instead of making a character on my sister’s account at her invitation. But at the time I only had satellite internet where I live, so I didn’t think I could even play WoW at home. I also could have set up the 6-month recurring sub sooner and saved myself a few bucks.
Overall though, I’m not one for regrets or do-overs.
I started in 2006 and if I could do it all over I would take my $15 a month and put it in a savings account rather than playing wow, and then fill my free time with healthy activities that bring me joy.
