Saying this as an Alpha tester who is flummoxed at seeing the paid Beta because it shouldn’t have to be said… If someone asks a question like “Hey, is Transmog currently disabled?” the proper response is not to say “Uhm, buddy, this is for testing not for looking good!”
It Is A test server!
People are testing stuff and many may not be aware of what is or is not enabled, disabled, broken, working as intended.
You are not cool. You are not edgy. You are helping no one with that kind of response when someone asks a question. Everyone there is there to test and report bugs. If something is disabled, like Transmog, then someone might ask to figure out if they are encountering a bug or if its intended to be disabled right now as to avoid reporting something that is intentionally disabled. Not everyone follows every single note or no-lifes forums or WoWhead.
Counter point. There are a TON, a literal TON, of notes for each wave of Alpha and now Beta. Stuff gets missed. Don’t be an elitest, don’t be a snob. This is a test realm, not GD.
Eh… I have been doing the helpful thing with fellow players for a couple decades now and they just don’t have the engagement with the forums that you or I do. They don’t see all the articles, or updates. They just jump in and poke the game beast as it is.
I always try to just be kind and answer the questions, often dozens of times a day. My current FAQs in game are:
Why can’t I fly?
Is transmog disabled/broken?
How do I get to the new housing?
Where else can I get house decor items? (I point them to WoWDB website for an amazing guide/database of all things housing)
All those are pretty well covered other places but it hurts nothing to pause and answer. I even figured out one of the decor daily riddles for someone. heh. I was proud of myself because it was the Horde zone and I don’t know that one very well.
Most people are being kind though and answering nicely instead of making fun of folks. They are also commiserating about the lag and such. You know, the usual shared test server woes we all have
No one cares if its Alpha or BETA just report, why even add that part lol we are flummoxed over dealing with more bugs after alpha ty This post post helps no one
…
Have you ever done game testing before or participated in actual Alphas and Closed Betas? They are not finished games and are by definition buggy and broken. They have stuff not even done yet and not even put into the game. They won’t run smoothly. They will be randomly taken down, offline, restarted, patched, etc.
That is how a Closed Beta is supposed to work. This is not early access to a finished game.
If you are expecting a bug free or smooth gameplay experience then you might not want to opt into, or participate in test phases - at least real ones that are actually unfinished games. It can be very frustrating and of course, you lose every bit of progress on the Beta. They even wipe the test servers between test phases so you start over multiple times per Beta. We keep nothing.
Perhaps it’s just my bad eyes, but those posts feel long enough for people to miss things. I know my eyes will skip over some stuff. Mostly just been poking around the UI since I don’t have a lot of time right now.
It’s wild to me that the immediate instinct for some people is to be unhelpful. It’s always the first few responses, too. They can’t WAIT to provide no useful information. It’s so easy to just be kind and answer the question if you know it, or just don’t say anything if you don’t.
I’m a guide on retail, I have a macro on my bars for the quest where they have to wave to Gorgoth because I see “wave” get repeatedly posted to newcomer chat multiple times every time I’m online.
Not everyone comes to this game from the same baseline knowledge, and having the view poitns of players who are less familar with the game will find issues more experieinced players just work around without realising it. Helping them can result in us all getting a better game.
And if you encounter a bug, please log a bug report either in game or on the forums, don’t assume someone else has reported it and then complain if it is still there in retail.
It hurts no one to be kind, but for the love of dog - if you are having trouble, please read the responses to your questions.
to be fair with steam many many many games start as a open beta for years before releasing so people expect beta to be a bit more refined nowadays as its treated like a release in other games.
Right?! I don’t get it either… Idk what drives folks to be that way… It’s kinda along the same lines of people who jump at the bit to say “Google it” or “Wowhead it!”… Like… To a degree, yeah, learning to be self-sufficient is good but it’s some times to really simple questions. If it were like “Hey, yeah, that is part of a long series of tasks that would require a lot of explaining, you should check Wowhead” then sure… But its never that, it’s always folks just seemingly wanting to be a butt.
Actually, Blizzard should be displaying patch notes on the launcher, rather than trying to shove Call of Duty down my god-damn throat, knowing full well I’ve never played it. And yes, they absolutely have access to that data.
