If WoW never had any raiding, would have you tried out the game?

I don’t raid unless I have to for a quest chain. So yeah I don’t care about raiding or PVP.

I came here after my hardcore classic D2 character finally passed… was a very different experience playing alone and naturally distrusting all other players so you play alone in a private game online. But here, not only did I need other players to accomplish things but needing ones set up to take damage and others to heal, I was excited to be that one healing.

I didn’t raid in Vanilla, or BC and very little in Wrath. So yes I would have tried it out and the outcome would have stayed the same. However, if there were no dungeons… probably not. Or if there were dungeons but it was just five dps plowing through it like an ARPG (or like it is now with heirlooms at low levels), definitely wouldn’t have stayed.

Something appropriately difficult for the more dedicated players to aspire to keeps people invested in the game.

If it’s not raiding, what else would it be? Are you trying to encourage an idea that we should get less content (raids) and that then 5-man content leftover would be good enough?

Otherwise you’re just spinning a hamster wheel of nothing.

Fun fact: I have never done a current raid or dungeon besides that which is required to unlock certain content (so, Xavius for Nightborne…on LFR)
The only time I enter raids/dungeons is to unlock content, or old raids for transmog/mounts/just for fun.

So yes I would still play WoW without the raids.

I would have tried it, but I would have quit once I got to max level.

I’m not going to say Raiding is unneeded, but I don’t think it would have affected my decision at all. I went back and looked, it looks like the only raids I’ve done at level are Deathwing and Highmaul. I just couldn’t really get into it. Oh and that 10th anniversary run of ragnaros to get the core hound mount. But I can’t even remember the name of the raid.

Absolutely - I’ve played WoW since it launched. I didn’t even know what an “Instance” was when I started. The only other MMO I had played was Shadowbane, which didn’t really have instanced content. I’ve played WoW for years without experiencing all of the raid content…and have enjoyed it.

I’m a solo player and don’t raid anyways, so yes.

I liked the idea of the game. You know, being an open world mmo. So, yes, I still would of started. Long story short only raided starting with 8.2 because I joined a guild. I wouldn’t be playing still if it wasnt for raiding with my guild though. So, if raiding wasnt a thing, I wouldn’t of played it for this long.
Reason I never raided before 8.2 is because i barely played lol. Played a little of wod and quit. Played a little of legion and quit. So, I would of quit bfa.

Aspire to what, exactly?

Overcoming the difficulty challenge.

Why would they aspire to do that specifically?

I barely knew that dungeons existed when I picked up the game, let alone raids. I didn’t learn about raids until I had been level 60 for at least 2-3 months. Eventually I joined a guild and did ZG, MC, Ony, and AQ20 but that the furthest I went, and the fact that the overwhelming majority of my playtime was either outdoors or in dungeons never changed.

Raids are cool but they’ve never been the tentpole of the game for me.

To compete with others in a multiplayer game, show off their accomplishments, etc.

Bit of an afterthought, but WoW didn’t have raiding when it launched. Molten Core was a patch.

Yeah I still would of tried it out. Over the years I left my PvP and PvE realms and ran for the hills to roleplay since that is literally the only thing keeping me playing now.

Hopefully Shadowlands is Blizzard’s redemption Expansion and is decent.

Why compete? Why show off?
Shouldn’t people be satisfied simply by doing it if that’s what they wanted to do?

Why not? Is there something wrong with being competitive or showing off what you earned?

I had the same experience. I literally got dragged into raiding because I was a holy pally and I joined a guild some friends from work belonged to. Their first team needed a healer and Ithey keyed me pithing 2 days of me hitting 70.

I only raided because friends after that. Once those friends drifted away, I have not raided since except for dog runs on old raids.

I am much happier now.

Nah but there is also nothing wrong with us looking down on those who do with righteous indignation.
