Anduin for the atrocities he committed while under the control of the Jailer, then shouldn’t we have to forgive Sylvanas? Neither was under complete control over their own minds as they did what they did. Sylvanas’s soul was split and controlled, and Anduin was controlled by the soul of Arthas in Shalawmayne.
If I pull a rabbit out of a hat you think I’m doing magic or a prank?
Sylvanas being “corrupted” while her innocent High Elf spirit plot armor came out of nowhere was the prank. Not magic.
What Anduin did…doesn’t measure up to Genocide attempts.
not attempts…actual genocide.
I mean, that’s what we’re doing. That’s the entire point with Tyrande having to choose renewal or vengeance.
They were different types of control. With Sylvanas she was still Sylvanas and in charge of her actions. The loss of the soul fragment just altered her state of mind. But the entire point of her story after reuniting with herself is coming to terms that she was still responsible for everything and has to face the consequences.
If she was just a puppet of the Jailer then she would never have turned against him or been seen debating with him and questioning his plans. So Sylvanas is still guilty and accountable, she was not MC’d. She was just more easily swayed to the Jailer’s side with her darker mindset.
Anduin on the other hand is not. He was straight mind controlled and had no say in anything he did.
Sylvanas was not controlled.
Danuser: I think an important distinction I want to call out in the question, with some of the revelations implying Sylvanas’s will was not her own. That’s definitely not the case. We’ve shown that her soul was divided at the moment of her death, and a part of it went into the Jailer’s menagerie of souls we saw during Chains of Domination, but that didn’t mean she didn’t have choice throughout her life, like when she was resurrected and became the Banshee Queen, leader of the Forsaken. She made choices that were her own, and ultimately she did come in contact with the Jailer, and she did decide to go in league with him, but she was not mind-controlled, she was not manipulated, she made those choices herself.
It’s magic. I tried that one, children were expecting the rabbit to be alive.
Don’t even get me started on my ‘saw the woman in half’ trick…I’m a terrible magician (hence the name).
Didn’t Sylvanas enter into the pact willingly though? Whereas Anduin was captured and subjugated, she chose her path.
Banshee Sylvanas did, her soul is reunited with the Ranger General, the one that called Banshee Sylvanas a monster
Sure, ill “forgive” her long enough to get the boy king back.
But for burning my entire starting zone?
Yea, let’s give Taranda one more chance at the choke out.
But wasn’t the whole point of the scene with Uther that Sylvanas is Sylvanas, regardless of split souls, and that she is both of them?
Only as far as the reunited soul has to deal with what Banshee sylvanas did, the choices she made in the past. I.E. we might not have to forgive her, but we shouldn’t treat her as if she will do the same again.
It’s just a boring trope that the lore has hinged on for far too long.
This will probably circle around to the jailer being influenced by an old God and he’s actually a nice guy that we all get to know and love.
Idk what the obsession with the story is. Video game stories are largely not even remotely as good as even this. Most of movies and television follow a standard format and are on par or worse than this.
It’s not a book quality story. It never was. It never will be. Want to delve into an amazing, unforgettable story? Go read. It’s likely the only place you’ll find your solace.
Video game stories can’t possibly be as captivating as books? Lol OK boomer
but not modern ya fantasy because it makes wow’s lore look like shakespeare.
Hardly and I’m not an avid reader either.
Tell me about all the amazing movies, video game stories, and shows that are just mind blowing stories without major flaws.
i read over 200 books last year. i am. and you’re ultimately correct. with video games and movies half of what makes it emotionally impactful are the visuals which books don’t have. so books have to go hard to make the same or stronger impact. visual media kinda hard carries itself.
