Tinkering, and more broadly engineering, has been a huge component of multiple other race’s identity and limiting it to the two most prominent “inventor” races would probably kill the class’s popularity.
Dwarves are shown to be as talented at engineering as Gnomes when it comes to developing weapons of war and industry. They are experts with explosives, siege vehicles, and more.
Undead are unmatched in their alchemical prowess and engineering tools of chemical and biological warfare. If a Tinker class was to include an “Alchemy” or “Chemistry” subclass, it’d be a crime not to include Undead.
Draenei have relied on artifice to survive for thousands of years, and their technology is, in many ways, far beyond what the natives of Azeroth have accomplished.
Humans and Orcs do not have engineering as a core component of their racial identity, but are both adaptable and intelligent enough to learn. We already see examples of this, such as the Orcs developing weapons of war in MoP and WoD, or the Ashvane Company in BFA inventing azerite weaponry.
I think if a Tinker class were to be introduced, it should be an option for the above races at least.
Ideally, the class would be like shaman where each race places their own aesthetic onto many of the class abilities, which in this case would be the Tinker’s inventions, robots, etc.

Yup, if tinkers were gnome and goblin only, it would be tremendously stupid. Specially since alliance has 2 gnomes. So horde would get vulpera probably, which are just dumb pomeranians.

If I had it my way, you will almost never see your character because they would stay in a mech suit…
So it wouldn’t really matter if it was locked to 2 races

There are 4 elf races in the game but only 2 can be demon hunters

Itty bitty Gnome. GIANT MECH. With rockets, flamethrowers and a fist that flings out and retracts.

Exactly. There have been 2 Tinkers in WoW proper, one a gnome and one a goblin
One is King of the gnomes, the other is a random goblin guy
Nah make them goblin/gnome exclusive but once you prestige them * get 50* you unlock apprenticeship to play tinker any class.
Tinker class design should be focused on Goblin/ Gnome tech. Using other inspiration will hurt the class since if there’s a bomb spell for example… making 6+ different bomb animations will require an absolutely insane work load that no other class requires.
Um you’re clueless if you think there’s been only 2 tinkers.
Tinkerer Gizlock from Mara.
New exiles reach zone has a tinker for both factions.
Tinkers have appeared constantly throughout wow history.
The only 2 hero units still not represented from Warcraft 3 is The Tinker and The Goblin Alchemist (healer)
Goblins make the biggest boom and you need to understand chemistry to make boom.

We should be able to build ourselves mechs that perform 1 of the 4 different roles and you can only enter/leave the mech in special garages so you can’t cheese mechanics. That way anyone could play any role if they really wanted to regardless of class.

There used to be, but they kinda phased out the distinction. It wasn’t race based, but rather a path you could take Gnomish or Goblin Engineering.
It’s kind of a dead thing now.
I think every spec shouldn’t use mechs.
I agree tank spec should be mech.
Ranged dps using ranged weapon and turrets.
Healing spec focused around healing and buffing allies with alchemy like the goblin alchemist hero unit from wc3.
We’ve also see some pretty unique Tinker Abilities through Gazlowe in Heroes Of The Storm
Illidan in HoTS set a big steppingstone for demon hunters in WoW

Sure but explosives are one narrow application of chemistry/alchemy.
I agree with everything but Humans and Orcs.
And that’s because when ever I play a zone with Orc or Human leaders they bring out a secret weapon.
Sometimes it’s a Brilliant forsaken or like in WOD the Genius Dwarf who made everything.
So Gnomes and Dwarfs Goblins and Forsaken… hmmm. I think Draenei would be a nice touch.
I know! Draenei and LF Draenei. And Trolls and Zandalari trolls.
The ranged class could be involve lots of alchemy and potions. I see Trolls and undead as more of the potions and mixtures.
Interestingly my argument for Zandalari is the same as for Draenei. They are both part of a huge technologically advanced civilisation primarily of their species.
So even if TPaartos isn’t a mechanical genius others will be.
Same with Zandalari. You could even have a story where the Og Trolls taught the Zandalari all the helpful things you could do with potions and alchemy.
You could even have the backstory for the tinker class be that all these races got together to come up with a unique way to do battle.
Maybe even have it be a 4 way class. Tank Class would involve heavy armour plating and long but powerful cool downs.
A class that plays like unholy but with summoned mechs. Maybe this could be the alchemy class with you hitting the enemy with various potions and bleeds while the mechs erupt gas and blight.
A meelee based class with a low damage mech summon (think water or arcane elemental)
I have no idea on a 4th spec but I think this could be a lot of fun if it was still selective.

The greatest explosion humanity has ever created has kept the world in check and it took a team of brilliant minds to create the nuclear bomb
Demon hunters have yall extra paranoid i see lol

well said. Although even as a DH purist I think opening it up to Nightborne and Void elfs would be interesting.
But it would need a unique story reason.
Zandalari didn’t strike me as a particularly technological advanced nation, especially in comparison to other civilizations.
They rely mostly on magic and the power of the Loa to lift their civilization up. They didn’t even build their capital city, just co-opting an old titan construct. Their most impressive feat is probably their navy and even that has less to do with the design of the ships themselves and more with the Loa backing their fleet.

Healer spec basically revolves around barrier healing and buffing with little nanobots.
Range dps is turrets n guns.
Melee is tire bombs/grenades.
Tank spec is dps heavy, with mech interactions ala D.Va from Overwatch.
Well, if Final Fantasy has any influence. I could see us fighting in an expansion where “magic is bad” a la FF6 or even FF10.
All the forces of Azeroth get tired of the implications of the sunwell, nightwell, maelstrom, giant trees and are like…“that’s it!, magic is now banned!”
Introduce the mechawarrior expansion. Tinkerers, machine cities, eveyone has to take on some kind of science related thing like add your power to a machine or construct.
Otherwise, a la Oblivion/Nehrim, you get hunted down and killed.
both mechagnomes and gnomes are the same pretty much unlike the elves , 2 of which appeared after DHs.
I will have to respectfully disagree.
It’s high time that Gnomes and Goblins had something exclusive all to themselves.
