If we could just get 1 PvP server

The problem is that people romanticise PvP so much, as though it’s ever been anything more than ganking, harassing and griefing. No one has ever truly wanted “balanced” and “fair” PvP, or else servers with unbalanced faction populations wouldn’t be a thing.

I fail to see any significant difference.

It just seems to me that the people advocating for PvP servers aren’t doing so players have a choice. That choice exists with Warmode, where players can come and go as they wish. What the advocates of PvP servers actually want is for players to have only one of those choices.

I never said these experiences never happen. But it does sound like you may have had a rather poorer time than I did. I was motivated by those experiences and I pushed to be better. I became a better pvper, was noticed in bgs by other active players who loved to pvp and were in pvp guilds. We loved it when guild chat popped “getting ganked here, who can help?” Maybe you were in more casual guilds with people who’d rather avoid that altogether. That would certainly have changed how I view those experiences.

Segregates the playerbase more than Retail/Classic? Sod? Wow Hardcore? With a playerbase of 7 million+, I should think that there’s enough players to fill the servers that suit their tastes, as they already do. Warmode solves nothing for players looking for more meaningful pvp experiences. And sharding does affect warmode.

Exactly. I don’t even play retail anymore because of war mode. War mode is far worse for the players than submitting a pvp server. I would possibly play retail if I had the option to play on a pvp server. Just leave a pvp server open, it’s not like anyone is forced to join it.

If you like war mode, just play on a normal server.

Why is that so difficult to understand?

Tell that to the countless guilds that transferred to ED in MoP for the WPvP from non-RP servers.

Or in the case of grobb which kept decent balance…more than a few nights you get 3 choices.

Keep on dying to the pro level capped “pvp’er” picking off level 30’s.

Rez sickness and stone out to go find another area to level in. Some butthats pick off on the graveyards too lol.

Log off. Some Corpse and gy campers have patience levels you would not believe. They will wait many many minutes for one more shank.

Even pvp games like eve give better options to avoid dying all night long. It’s how I made/make money there. High risk pve where I got really good at dying way less.

You get caught sometimes. I’d just get caught after making say 5 billion net even throwing in ship loss. Fair enough trade off there really.

I got sick of the headaches of being on a PVP server all the way back in 2007, and that was even RP-PVP so others -might- leave you alone sometimes.

It had nothing at all to do with leveling or gathering.

Dungeon summoning stones were an invitation to get 5v1’d every damn time. Fighting that rare? Better take it out in 10 seconds or someone else will kill you and steal the tag. Do some dailies? They brought a group and I didn’t so no that’s not happening.

Needing to watch your back can be fun. Having every single thing you do EVERY SINGLE DAY also involve PVP is obnoxious af. There’s a reason servers like Illidan turned into 98% horde / 2% alliance. And it’s because others hate putting up with that too.

Stay in the server you’re already on. Sounds like this thread isn’t for you

I’m on lone wolf in SoD if you really want to find out lol

then i will have to make a pink haired gnome

I quit PVP servers during TBC. The horde would camp Sunwell dailys all day and night on the Bleeding Hollow server. PVP servers are gank servers imo. No PVP happens, just ganking.

I remember South Shore n such but honestly…that was a snore fest. Warmode was a solid change imo.

It would take about a week before that pvp server was 90% one faction

Then stay in war mode. But there are players who would rather be on a real pvp server

My honest thoughts on how this thread is reading to me:

Op and others would like a single optional server that works how the old pvp servers did. We would enjoy it. We understand the issues that come with pvp servers, we played on them before. Warmode isn’t the same as the mentality of the players on Warmode isn’t the same as old pvp servers. Likewise classic pvp servers isn’t the same because while we don’t like warmode we don’t out right hate retail and would like the bits of retail that isn’t warmode to still exist but on old pvp server style.

And as for the people who don’t like the old pvp servers I still haven’t seen a reason why it shouldn’t be an option that isn’t based on unfounded information, such as it taking a lot of resources. Personal opinions/issues/scars with said server types and hypothetical new players some how stumbling on a single server and having a time that mirrors theirs and decides to quit WoW instead of trying a different server.

Absolutely wild, that a request but let us be honest probably going to stay hypothetical return of a server type that would be 100% fully optional is getting this much push back lol.

I would love a pvp server, one to start and see how it works if the server is full make a second one and make sure that the pvp servers are cross realm with each other

Yeah why not. But I think it’s gonna be dead very soon. The thing I’ve learned about world pvp is that it does not exist. You get one or two fights before the losing group disperses. Otherwise, chasing a guy who is running like his bum is on fire so you won’t kill him isn’t world pvp. It’s ganking. But yeah, sure. Open a PVP server.

No reason for anyone to join a pvp server unless you know what a pvp server is and choose to be on it. I would assume normal servers would not change at all

Well, you’re getting them now.

The contention is with the perception that it’s 100% optional. Yes, in a strictly literal sense, joining any given server is optional. If I am completely opposed to playing on a PVP server, nothing forces me to do so.

But the server decision is not made in a vacuum of everything else. A lot of people choose their server based on where their friends/family are playing. The possibility that a player’s friends/family are playing on a PVP server creates an uncomfortable choice if they are not keen on playing on a PVP server. They either choose a non-PVP server where those friends/family aren’t playing or they sign up for a potentially less enjoyable time so they can play with their friends/family.

The concern with the reintroduction of a PVP server isn’t that PVP players would gain a place to have the style of PVP they want. I’m on record in this thread that I would like to see one or more PVP servers return because of this. But it’s simply incorrect to act like this addition couldn’t have an impact on one or more players who don’t want to play on a PVP server. The concern is that some portion of players who today don’t have to worry with what kind of server their friends are on now need to worry about that if their interests don’t fully align.
