Having your employees commit suicide while you engaged in covering up and shielding the ones responsible reflects pretty badly on the stock price too. Didn’t stop it from happening.
Things blizzard/reality has confirmed:
- This testing cycle is structured completely differently from previous cycles
- Fewer systems means they are already making tuning and minor iteration passes on some classes (per Ion) at a time when other expansions still had system designs happening
- pre order end date is a legal obligation, the US isn’t the center of the world.
Speculation
- Same guy who leaked everything ahead of the announcement is the same source for the Oct 25 pre patch date. Somewhere between extremely lucky and and insider, but an ok source ntl.
- Holiday schedule remarks from Ion could see raid release between Thanksgiving and Christmas, necessitating a November launch.
- A LOT of the alpha is feature complete, and has been for a while. We’re in the polish phase.

What are you talking about? The .0 patch of any expansion is the Beta.

Ion had a freudian slip of beta for his recent interview with Max from liquid. Not significant but something to consider.
From what it is looking like with the current state of Alpha, we’re looking at possibly a 8 week Beta vs a typical 12 week. It would allow for the Oct 25 pre-patch rumor to be accurate.

Agreed. This launch news came out of no where and even before we knew anything about it. Usually they give the news during Blizzcon but then usually doesn’t launch till later the next year. I know Blizzcon was cancelled but this definitely seems rushed and not the normal pattern. It was like, “Here is the new expansion coming and oh it is launching in 5 months or so.”

If Beta were released in the next 30 days or so, they would also be looking at splitting their playerbase’s time between Wrath Classic and Beta testing. There’s perhaps a large contingent of Wrath Classic players that no longer care about Retail and won’t do Beta anyway, but I have to think there’s a big overlap.
I don’t think beta does anything, they’re probably going to let live be beta as usual.
It wouldn’t surprise me if they’re behind schedule. They can’t release the beta until it’s ready.
Yeah I’m thinking it’s crazy how blizzard hasn’t announced beta yet or even a date for beta for a game they have so far said is coming this year. We are at September as of tomorrow. I’m with all of you I think this is being pushed to 2023 .
Either way this year or not I think they should update with an official post on any adjusted time lines.
They still need to test the last instance and they have tested both mythic and Mythic+ on top of that, there some of class’ abilities and talents that are bugged. Also they haven’t tested the raid instance.
Blizzard hired on 100+ new employees to work on Dragonflight.
Also, this expansion is a lot less bloated with borrowed power stuff and there isn’t a new system like Torghast being implemented. So the overall workload is significantly less w/ more people available to pump out content.
Maybe we can finally achieve 3-month patch cycles and have a plethora of new dungeons and raids during the expansion.
They must be busy working on something! I just attended a virtual career summit for US Veterans and Acti/Blizz was the only company without a single representative available to chat. How rude 
Having said that…Alpha has been going for well over a month now. Surely they’ll be wrapping it up and moving on to Beta soon.
3 months in-between 10-man boss raids isn’t really enough time. You need at least 5-6 months.
There arent systems on top of systems on top of systems. 4 convenants or other weirdness. All your getting is new zone different talent structure new raid and dungeons.
If Beta released next week its not hard to meet Nov 28th DF release or week or two after.
All the talents are done now its just balancing and testing raids/dungeons and endgame content
