I’d like to just run the dungeon at the level I want.
You can do that now.
Not really.
You can’t just spontaneously make a +5 or a +8, you need to have your key. That key needs to be the dungeon you want. Then it needs to be the level you want.
Alternatively you can find someone with the key you want but that could take a long time.
The keys offer zero benefit to the Mythic Plus system. It would overall be better without them.
Ah, I misunderstood the op. I thought they were calling for the removal of m+.
Get ready for sadness.
I made the knee jerk reaction as well thinking they were meaning on heroic or something. I think they mean actually putting the key level rank directly into the dungeon they want to run without having to build a key to that appropriate level.
It’s an interesting idea.
Yeah It would be great if people could just choose.
What does it matter if I skip straight to a plus 10 or 15 without grinding keys? If I can clear it, let me do it.
Also, if they want to avoid the issue where people are just grinding one dungeon or never doing a certain dungeon, maybe don’t make terrible/unfun dungeons?
Blizzard probably wouldn’t like the idea because they like to throttle the rate of gear acquisition to keep people playing.
That would mean you could target one dungeon until you got the gear you needed from it and we all know Blizz isn’t going to let that happen. You need to run 4 other dungeons that have nothing you can use just to get the key to the one you want just so the group can fall apart at the second boss. Isn’t this fun?
Nah, I love m+! It has some rough edges but it’s a good time.
…but you can. Sign up for a 10 or a 15 in LFG.
It would be nice if you could just select the dungeon level you were comfortable with and just sign up for it like with any other dungeon
Kinda like Torghast with its levels. The only requirement would be that you had timed the level that preceded it.
Also, if you are going to keep drop rates as low as they are, remove the daily lock from M0 bosses and make them queueable.
That would be pure misery for the average or god forbid, below average skilled player. In that kind of system there would be 0 tolerance for an underperforming player since they could just run their own key. The non skilled player would quickly find themselves in a world where they couldn’t find anyone to run a key with since they would get booted or people would leave the moment they saw signs of underperforming. The current system, while not perfect, incentivizes people to try and make the run successful. People still leave, but it would be orders of magnitude worse if they allowed people to just run whatever key they want.
You can already do this by just queuing for that dungeon specifically in the LFG tool, I ran like 15 gambits back to back.
I think it’d be a great boon to just have the keystone and let you select the level you wanted. Or if they wanted to keep it the way it is: just let me select any level at or below what my keystone is when I put it in, yeah you can delevel it in town and it’s a lot faster than it used to be, but really annoying if I want to make a 17 a 2 for example.
Yeah the only reason I can think of that they keep the key is that it extends our time played metric RNG nonsense that they love so much.
I don’t think people are “incentivized to try to make it work” - people playing for IO will leave when a run is looking sour, nobody really cares about the keyholder.
However, I do agree with the notion that this forced key system means that a lot of less-skilled or off-meta players get to run keys, because people are willing to carry the keyholder if it means another shot at an item they want or IO they need.
I don’t know if if that’s a good thing though. Part of what makes M+ work well is that players often separate themselves out into play ranges where they’re playing with like-minded / like-skilled players. Mixing players of different skill levels together can create toxicity.
I would like to play a 25 SD.
Hmm… I look in Group Finder and I don’t really see anything.
It’s goofy when the best way to get better at the game isn’t to play the game, but to go onto the test realm or tournament realms where you can fabricate your own keys and grind it out before going back to live servers. Why isn’t just playing the game the best way to play the game?
I dunno if I’d like to see keys removed entirely, I think the community would start to require stuff like tanks having the DoS trinket. It’s such a huge deal for high key tanking, it’s literally snap threat and another survival ability on your hot bar all rolled into one.
That being said, I’m not having a super hard time finding groups to target the dungeons I want usually. It’s more of an issue finding groups that don’t want orange IO carries on my Alts.
The community would just become even more toxic if you could. Since you could just spam a dungeon with your BiS loot over and over easily, you’d be expected to have it more so than now. Most high-end raid guilds worth being in would expect you to farm for your BiS trinket within the first week or two of a tier.
I was thinking this the other day. The level of the dungeon should be chosen at the pedestal and unrelated to the key itself. Just make it a one-time character-based unlock from on your highest timed key for that dungeon. A +2 for DoS 8 allows you to start a DoS at any level up to 10. You still have the cycled keys so you’re still forced to deal with good/bad dungeons on a given week but it removes the need for making a trip to down-rank a key. Also solves the super-high M+ key problem where you want to work on or practice a particular dungeon at a specific difficulty level.
They have already been clear that they would not do this to prevent people from spam running dungeons for either loot or vault.
I have multiple times, posted my own group with a title “+x - Your Key” and gotten exactly what I needed within a few minutes.
This will further increase the amount of carries. Pay for a +15-20 carry one time and you can continuously run it without being actually ready for it. Dragging groups down along the way.
