Is it really headcanon though? Blood Elves strike me as one of the least loyal core races to the Horde, at least in regards to their faction. High Elves giving their lives defending Quel’thalas doesn’t really scream Horde loyalty to me
It’s heroic for sure, but it only proves loyalty to their kingdom. Thalassians first
Hey now, the Night Elves quite literally bleed blue now. One of the best things to happen to the alliance imo, just been wasted opportunities along the way from the story team.
My thinking is: Nelves were their own faction in WC3, equal to the COMBINED might of the Alliance and Horde forces on Kalimdor. Why they would choose a faction rather than pursue their own interests is utterly beyond me. The race being neutral with individual characters able to pick a side, feels more organic to me. Malfurion seems to have a kind of friendship going with Thrall and even an admiration for the Orc’s desire to achieve redemption. Tyrande seemed to have a bit of a friendship with Kael’thas in TFT, and he did help save her life in the same game.
I’m mostly uninformed blue side but I believed that the Alliance were just allies at first and not turned into one nation all of a sudden as the story went on.
The Blood elves have been solid Horde since MoP when the negotiations with joining the Alliance fell through. Them being in the Horde was originally out of convenience but it didn’t remain that way. Liadrin definitely has good things to say about the Horde. Mostly that they helped the Blood elves find their place in Azeroth. Pretty high praise.
Basically the Blood Elves are not “Thalassians first” but they do obviously care about their people. But they still are loyal to the Horde and short of “Either all your people die or you leave the Horde” or the Horde trying to genocide them I don’t see the Blood Elves leaving. But that would go with any of the Horde races too.
Fair enough to say that their levels of patriotism is on par with the orcs, but towards different things. 90% of their population wasn’t given defending the Horde. I’ve no question that they’re loyal to their own people
I just don’t understand why the Blood Elves would be willing to lie down on a sword for the Horde. Sure they’re a part of it, but would they remain if it were detrimental to their kingdom? I’d argue not. Lor’themar’s willingness to leave shows this
Well, the Horde has done more for the elves. Thus, we’ve integrated more deeper and smoother with such an abstract culture faster than we have with the Alliance.
Has it? I mean, the biggest thing the belves could have ever had happen to them, the best thing for their civilization, was actually done by the Alliance. Canonically, the Alliance secured the Sunwell Plateau, and restored their font of infinite arcane power as well as making it a font of holy light as well, making it possible for the Blood Knights to continue to exist.
I don’t think anything the Horde has done for the belves can ever measure up to that.
I agree. The elves’ reasoning for joining the Horde was solid and thematically they fit in very well
All I’m saying is that Blood Elves probably wouldn’t be willing to sacrifice their kingdom on behalf of the Horde, and that they’d join the Alliance if it ensured their survival. Is that really headcanon?
All of what - 15 years? The political and philosophical schism between the two groups of the same race have only existed since Arthas & the Scourge. So they have a ~10-15 year divergence in lives numbered in the thousands of years.
Lor’themar was only willing to join the Alliance because of Garrosh’s tyranny. But when Jaina made the negotiations impossible with the purge, somewhere down the line he became a solid Horde guy. Probably after Garrosh. The reason I say this is because he didn’t open up these kinds of negotiations when he realized Sylvanas was insane. Perhaps one could say there was too much bad blood, but I highly doubt that Anduin would be like “Sorry Blood elves but we will not let you join us against Sylvanas.” Especially since it would have brought an end to the war faster more than likely.
The nelves and dwarves can be accused of spying, but not sabotage. The sanctum that malfunctioned simply malfunctioned because too much stress was put on it. The sanctum keeper says as much.
It’d be in everyone’s interest to make sure it could never be used as a portal again by destroying it. Even Lor’themar was considering destroying the Sunwell again, until Velen purified it. You can thank the Draenei for this one, but Draenei are part of the Alliance. You can thank the Alliance as well.
Sylvanas saved all of Azeroth by sounding retreat at the Broken Shore, do you think that’s reason for everyone to join the Horde? Or for us to be loyal to her in the civil war?
Sentinel spies were sent to Quel’Thalas by the night elves in order to spy on the activities of the blood elves and sabotage them. They were aided by the dwarf Prospector Anvilward.
Now this is a point I can understand. Wish it were stated in game more
Like when Alleria wanted to talk about the Blood Elves joining her in the Alliance, Lor’themar just sorta shut her down. Would’ve been a good chance for him to explain his loyalty better, perhaps even to try to bring Alleria and the High Elves into the Horde (I know her husband is an Alliance hero, but still)
