If, by the end of the World Soul Saga, Sargeras ends up being the ‘good guy’ and the other Titans actually being the ‘bad guys’-- how would you feel about that route and decision?
I would be kind of annoyed, the “bad guy go good” trope is getting overplayed.
I’m hoping that the expansion is named “The Last Titan” because Sargeras breaks free, kills the rest of the Titan pantheon (leaving him as the final one), and we end up having to take him out somehow.
The World Soul Saga being the end of the “Age of Titans” would be interesting.
They won’t go this direction. There is no way Sargaras can be painted as a good guy when his MO was destruction of everything. That’d really be no different than any other bigger bad.
Zoval was at least trying to remake the universe to his liking, and he was a TERRIBLE villain.
Of course they’re bad. They are extremes/absolutes. So was Sargeras.
Why do you think fantasy writers always put the material plane in the middle of the cosmology?
Vindicated.
The only way I’d be annoyed is if they imply that we are also “the baddies” for “going along with the titans” for so long.
Where this is no choice, there can be no dire consequences, and so there really shouldn’t be a moment where “MWAHAHA! WE GOT YOU, because you… played… the game… with a railroad story… for 20 years… BUT WE GOT YOU!”
It wouldn’t be the first time the story went eyeroll-worthy, but that would be another instance of that.
I’d be pretty annoyed; but I don’t think its necessary to make Sargeras into a good guy just because the rest of the Titans are less than benevolent entities.
The WoW narrative has gotten so convoluted and often just bad that I really wouldn’t care at all.
Genocide is not “a good guy” move by any stretch.
I’d feel… unsurprised. All this cosmic stuff and titans and what not, should have remained buried in mystery, and while I’m cautiously excited about where the War Within will go… there’s a certain degree of apathy now.
They quite literally shattered their lore in Shadowlands, so I can’t say I care all that much whether or not Sargeras was the hero all along, though it would be predictably corny to turn their original greatest evil into a mock hero
Yet so many edgelord toxic kids love Garrosh…
Explain it and write it well and maybe it won’t be a trash fire.
Story is dictated by the writing, and if it’s bad, the story’s bad.
That’s why Illidan is a bad guy.
He enslaved the Broken Tribes, and when they started to rebel, he wanted to kill them all.
It’s unlikely that “the Titans” will be the bad guys.
What is most likely is that some Titans will be extreme and want to destroy / subjugate the other Cosmic Forces (probably the strongest Titans), while others will want to stick to their lane, and we will side with those ones and beat the extreme ones.
Basically Shadowlands with Titans.
With what we know at the moment this feels like the best take to me.
I suppose at best, like several others, I’d just be annoyed; at worst I’d be the final nail that finally drives me away from this game and its setting for good, though I’d probably need a few more asinine plots or the character assassination of a race I like to precede it.
My money is on Sargeras finally convincing Illidan of the truth, resulting in Sargeras giving Illidan all his power. Illidan then returns to Azeroth and beats up everyone.
I’d be fine with this.
I liked his story, how he was corrupted by the forces he was fighting. The whole “Gaze into the abyss and the abyss and the abyss gazes back into you”. Was nicely done.
If they change it, they are worse writers than I gave them credit for.
The real friends were the Titans we made along the way.
especially since there are good guys and bad guys.
Hardest of hard no’s…
