This has always bothered me about Tolkeinesque elves in general. Humans have, what 35-45ish good years to improve in combat before they fall out youth, and 70-90ish years to improve mentally before age takes its toll. And yet even in that very small amount of time we can evolve rapidly.
If a person were to be able to train and have learning experiences for 10k years, they’d be on a different level of existence not comprehensible to humans. Elves are already portrayed as being “more perfect” version of humans. You would expect them to just wipe the floor with humans, and yet, that never seems to be the case. They are always somehow just a little better than us, but still pretty much human emotionally, intellectually, etc.
How do you reconcile this huge stretch of logic?

Because they aren’t humans. Only humans have that sorta potential.

why aren’t they invincible geniuses
Because Abert Einstein was a human.
human potential is the answer , that is their compensation for short life spans is to have great potential in everything

Humans change easier. Humans have way more generations in the span of a single elf generation so humans actually get constant influx of ideas and innovation from new people with different personalities, levels of intelligence, curiosity and so. Humans also have a bigger need to improve faster because of this.
Elves? well harry the elf is same old harry 10k years later. Complacent and with the same faults he always had. Meanwhile the humanfamily family has gotten so many people in that spawn of time they have moved way past that the first humanfamily member.

They are for the most part literal savages that live In trees and eat leaves. They are too held back by their animalistic ways.

You also have to take into account that elves are isolationist, so they mostly live surrounded by their own ideas and ways of life forever. Humans on the other hand travel, adapt and generate different cultures. Gilneas isn’t the same as Kul’tiras and KT isn’t the same as Stormwind. These cultures exchange ideas and learn from others unlike the elves who are always closed down.
Through history, those who have been near other cultures have always improved faster than those who have been more isolated which is why europe developed so quickly compared to say america.

I agree. Humans need to be nerfed. There are too many Male Human Paladins.

But why are Draenei so awesome then? Draenei had the whole of Argus for themselves, needless to say they developed different cultures and adapted all over the planet for years, unlike elves. They are also more naturally gifted than any other race.
This is human potential. This is what the elves are lacking.

They focus so much on the long term, that they don’t worry so much about the short term. They’re not in a hurry to do anything. That’s a human thing.
They’re also convinced they can win Nethack with a Female Half-Troll Tourist, and are getting so close.
Hey, us elves are jealous of space goats. Nobody cuts glass with there feet the way the Draenei does.
historically speaking elves see the mortal races as inferior and beneath them and as such they have a tendency to look down on them with haughty derision and utter contempt
in rare cases some mortal races have actually managed to earn the respect of elves for various reasons but its not a common occurrence but as a race most mortals tend to be ignored or otherwise shunned by their society merely because they choose to try and not get involved in the politcial or other petty affairs of man
I think they learned shamanism from the orcs.
Because they have been stagnant for 10k years.
If you don’t grow or evolve, you don’t improve.
No they didn’t, they learnt it from a Broken named Nobundo, who learnt it from… wind.
So what you are saying is Nelfs are really hairless Pandaren
