How exactly because I found everything we did actually pretty darn linear… but then again I read the quests, and the flavor stuff, and paid attention to everything around me.

Plot twist, Metzen is still working for Blizz and this is all his work. You guys were just under the false impression he would make things better

I wonder if the people who repeat this stupid crap even know what >they< mean by it.
I never needed to do any of this to be interested in the lore of this game and name all the lore characters, I automatically am interested in the Warcraft universe.
The current story reminds me of how the game was in Vanilla and I think people right now just aren’t used to it, why would they be? It’s 20 year old design.
When such subjects can be discussed without a fear of reprisal, or over the top controlling of the narrative through either fear and censorship; then it might be worth dialoguing on I reckon. Until then, the silence speaks far louder IMHO.

Yeah when Metzen came in, TWW was already mid-production and was intended to be self-contained, with Xalatath being beaten at the end and that whole thing wrapped up. The Worldsoul Saga wasn’t a thing.
Then he came in and reworked the direction so TWW feels like it did a sharp U-turn in the middle that gave people a bit of narrative whiplash. I can’t post links but there’s a video by Bellular Warcraft called " The War Within’s Story Stopped Dead—And We Know Why" that’s worth watching if you want to go in depth about this.

Man this is genuinely so weird and frankly parasocial as hell.
You can just say you don’t like what Chris Metzen is currently putting out right now in terms of writing.
You don’t have to make up this weird conspiracy theory that the other people on the writing team are trying to sideline him or sabotage him or something.
Just because you liked the story he put out before doesn’t mean you’re going to continue to like what he puts out, and you don’t have to pretend like he has nothing to do with the story when you don’t like it.
From what I remember his role was in leadership anyway, not in writing the story himself.
