If i wanted to play wow on Linux which version is the least amount of work to get Bnet/Wow to work?

Hardware 32GB Memory 3600mhzDDR4 MSI board / Intel 12600k / Radeon 6950xt / Intel Wifi/ WD Black 770 nvme.

Currently Windows 11 Pro.

Top suggestions already received : Fedora 40, OpenSuse Tumbleweed.

My linux knowledge : close to zero.

Zorin OS and CachyOS have done very well for me.
You should install Lutris, and use the Lutris website to lookup WOW, and you will find a nice script to get BattleNet and WOW going.
Works very well with both Classic and Retail, and is quite stable.

i tested out linux on an old laptop and Battle net had no working chat and wow crashed on startup and this has so far kept me scared away from loading it on my desktop. The laptop has an old i5 and should be able to run the vanilla 60 classic wow but it crashed with Lutris. I tried Debian 12, Mint and Zorin.

Indeed, I should have mentioned that I was using a desktop system.
Many laptops that I have tried are full of odd or proprietary system components that cause issues.
So, if your system is a laptop, there maybe extra hurtles or it may not work at all well. If it is a desktop, your chances are much better.
Though it adds to the cost, if you are comfortable with changing PC parts, I have often replaced the current nvme SSD with a spare, so that I can test out Linux without disturbing my Windows install.
This may not be possible for you, but it is a potential way to test in a totally nondestructive way.
