If i learned the appearance of a crafted item and dropped the profession would i keep the mog?

Not sure if this is best posted in transmog or professions, but if I were to say level leatherworking and learn the Tempered Tempest Legging’s appearance and then go back to Engineering would I keep the transmog appearance? Or would it only be usable while I have leatherworking? I have a feeling I’d lose the transmog and I don’t have much gold so it’d be a gigantic loss if so.

Yes, you would keep the appearance.

Engineering items are the only transmog that are locked to having the profession. You still keep all appearances, but they are “locked” for engineering until you have the required profession and sometimes skill level to “unlock” them again.

I think the xmog system would benefit from the devs taking a look at what can be done along the lines of costuming these days. Sure, some of the more elaborate stuff would take engineering to make, but not to wear, if it has no real functionality.

I had to make a clothie (priest) to be able to add and use the low level cloth engineering transmog items. Which means I can only use them on her or a future clothie engineer.

yeah, I’ve considered getting one of my leatherworkers to pick up engineering to get appearances but the fact that only that character would be able to use it has kept me from caring enough. Likewise with all the BOP wrong-armor-type stuff in Nazjatar…

I’m actually talking about leveling leatherworking to get the transmog appearance (Tempered Tempest Leggings), not engineering transmog items. I’d like to level up leatherworking, make the pants, and hopefully still be able to use the appearance for transmog after swapping back to engineering.

I’m having terrible luck getting mythic Jadefire to drop them, and haven’t been able to get a pug group to Stormwall or do the first boss in mythic COS for a second and third chance at 'em.

The Tempered Tempest Leggings DO say “Requires Kul Tiran Leatherworking 150” so I expect I wouldn’t keep the mog appearance after dropping leather working to go back to my “main” or “real” profession. I’d love to just go ahead and spend the gold and time leveling LW and then re-leveling Engi, but I don’t want it to be a complete waste of time and gold lol.

yeah, since they have the requirement I would bet they don’t work for non-leatherworkers. I’ll check tonight to see if I have (or can get) that appearance on my leatherworker and then whether my other leather wearers can use it.
