I would like Blizzard to hire more QA, so I imagine we need more players paying subs. Also the Mt.Dew promotion made me think about being someone seeing the ad and trying the game for the first time.
How would you convince me to play retail WoW right now in its current iteration?
Further, do you feel like WoW is friendly to new players?
Can I experience everything retail WoW has to offer in the current season with a reasonable time commitment? ect.
Edit: Comment’s like ‘I dunno, they can try it if they want.’ Isn’t really that insightful, common. Is that WoW’s sales pitch?
Either people like MMOs or they don’t. They are an aquired taste that is slowly vanishing…so, I would ask if you like MMOs, and if you say yes I would highlight WoW’s end game and combat systems.
Absolutely not. There is a mountain sized learning curve for new players.
Yes. Even more so now with the latest design iteration. Delves are a minor time requirement, normal raid is easliy cleared in a day, and M+ is easily experienced in less than an hour for every dungeon. However, if you want to play at the highest levels or get the best gear possible…it’ll take considerably more time.

I just wouldn’t lol. Other expansions were just better for a noob’s perspective, like Legion.
You already kinda have to know who Xal is and about Titan stuff if you’re gonna understand TWW at all.
Definitely not.
Most of what you need info-wise is found outside of the game.
Places like WoWhead, Murlok io, Icy-Veins or whatever.
This is the one thing I will say yes to.
I felt I finished TWW way too fast and ended up fairly bored. Hence being here on the forums.
Probably the fastest I’ve ever finished any WoW expansion. (Got Loremaster on the second week, renown almost maxxed. It’s only been two-ish months?)

If I have never played retail WoW, how would you convince me to play right now?
I’d say try it. If you like it, play. If you don’t, go do something else.
It’s a game. There is no other reason to play other than finding it fun.

Sadly I would just admit that I wouldn’t try to convince anyone that had never played to play retail right now. Too much of a learning curve and I’d honestly feel like I was setting someone up for failure unless I straight up adopted them.

I would tell a person who has never played a lick of Warcraft in their lives to take full advantage of Chromie Time and go through the expansions one at a time.

I would ask leading questions to find out if its a fit.
Does the person like MMOs or the idea of MMOs?
Does the person enjoy post leveling content?
Questions like that. If so, I would recommend it.
It would just ultimately come down to knowing the person. I wouldnt suggest BG3 to someone that hate turn based, only enjoys FPSers.
100% lmao. Even returning players have no idea what to do because systems change so much over the years. Very overwhelming for people who have prior experience and I can’t even imagine a brand new player.

I’d say I think it’s cool you should try it. But if you do like it , especially as a new player it could suck away a lot of your free time.

That’s pretty much any IRL pitch I gave to anyone over the years who I know at least shown interest watching me play.
Wow, is incredibly difficult to dive into as a new player.
The flood of options you’re presented with can be overwhelming for a returning player, with some level of familiarity, never mind a new player.
It can’t be easy to wrangle in all there is to know and then deploy it in such a way that it feels like an easy to follow straight line introduction for a new player.
I really feel there needs to be a much longer introduction to the game. Something akin to the remix, where new players are put in a safe and educational environment that’s larger than the current introduction to the game.
Let them play out 70 levels. introduce teamwork and cooperation and let them make friends with other new players allowing bonds to form before they are released to the “general public” New players need to have a level of shielding from the overwhelming expansiveness of the game.
One problem with that is they wouldn’t know the order they released, and they’d probably only see half an expansion before they’re into TWW, if they’re lucky. In the case of Cata, they wouldn’t even see 1/8 of the old zones.
I would probably just refer someone to the free trial…like I did my nephew this past weekend.
This game needs a serious overhaul, especially in regards to new players.
These are my feelings right now as well unfortunately lol

I wouldn’t. I wouldn’t try to convince" anyone to play any game, I would however explain why I enjoy it.
If that’s all it takes to drop a minimum of $50 for base edition of the latest expansion plus $15 a month, good job Mtn Dew/Blizz.
Depends on who you ask, also depends on the new player.
Define “reasonable”? It’s an MMO as you know.
If they wanted to try it, I’d say create a battle.net account and play until level 20. I think that gives enough time to see if the game itself is something they would even be interested in. If after that they are having fun, go ahead and add $15 and play though until level 70.
It’s not widely advertised, but you can actually play most of the game with just the $15 sub. Essentially, you get access to everything except TWW.
So its really cheap to try the game for the 1st time.

I wouldn’t because I literally can’t recommend the new player experience to anyone.
I mean maybe if you annoyed me then I’d recommend it to you so you suffer and waste your money.

I would show them the $90 mount. No way they don’t love it after seeing that.

Gotta get that confirmation bias started early
- its a fun, expansive and interesting game.
- its well worth the cost for the sub and expansions.
- its JUST a game, its not mean to replace a human life, so dont try to.
beyond that, I wouldnt bother trying to convince you.
Youre either an PC RPG sort and would give it a shot…or you wouldnt.
