If I dont have a pet how do I do solo as a MM

huh? doesnt MM have concussive shot extensions iwth their regular rotation? plus last i saw they were among the most mobile rDPS in the game. not like hunters are a squishy class anymore either

Use utility\mobility to keep them at range.

I think hocus is right on this one. Concussive shot has a pretty short duration, you have to interupt your dmg frequently to apply it. Hunters are pretty squishy these days, and Aimed shot really turns you into a turret.

As an example, to be comparable to what I can do. Multishot and arcane shot would both have to apply the concussive shot effect. Aspect of the Cheetah would have to let you Aimed Shot while moving and have it’s cooldown cut in half. Exhilaration would need its cooldown cut a little more.

Rarely do you use steady shot (Renews concussive), especially when trying to burst no. Only when out of focus. Tar trap is the more common slow and you would try to kite and keep it in the puddle, but it’s not a big enough area usually to be effective especially when you have to stop to aimed.

Another problem is gear variables - the difference of ilvls drastically changes damage as well as durability. The difference of even leveling is very different depending on gear. Lower gear = less chances to kill enemy, less dmg, less durable.

Another problem is things like enemies, as well as enemy types. Some can be ranged types, some with casted abilities you can interrupt - some you can’t. Either that or you have to save interrupt for a heal ability, or CD of interrupt (especially if mob cannot be cc’d) is too long to get every cast needed.

To do full damage while moving, perhaps with kill shot/black arrow procs and rapid fire. Rapid fire has a CD, and generally you need aimed/wailing shot to reset that CD to keep doing dmg while moving. You can do lower dmg stuff like arcane, and steady shots inbetween.

That is at least how it currently plays, with all the changes coming it’ll be quite different and will have to see. Having a pet in general helps things a lot, and that’s just mechanically speaking for soloing, PvP.

There’s also the sentimental and aesthetic reasons for people wanting to play with their choice of pets, or to have a pet out. Between Dark Ranger types & their hounds or often undead pets, sentinel types (Which could be anything from owls to cats, or wolves - generally more regular pets), Sharp shooter or hunter types, a lot of people have different lore or ideas for their characters, some including for roleplay or in general stories. Sometimes people pick a pet to go with their transmog, etc. I’ll throw in a couple of fun images. Some people prefer shooting stuff, they don’t like BM for various reasons. I think it kinda sucks for those people to try and force them to be petless as MM - having to re-spec (Which isn’t even instant - but also changes all abilities and some aesthetics) each time they want to hang around kinda sucks.

I am standing here waiting for a rare to spawn and the boredom must have me hallucinating. There are two MM Hunters with pets out waiting here too. Forum experts have assured me those don’t exist, so it must be hallucination.

that’s so crazy cause I’m hunting for a rare and there are FOUR lone wolf MM here. this anecdote must mean there’s double the amt of petless MM as the alternative

It’s Science!

Of all the examples you could have picked you went for the one with multiple self-heals, roots, knockbacks, slows, and even an emergency summon?

Roots, knockbacks, slows don’t work on elites. Have you tried healing yourself on a boomkin? It barley does any more healing than exhil, you get about 5 casts of a super weak heal.

And hunters have what… binding shot, intim, scatter/knockback, tar trap, freezing trap, another knockback like we have so much cc that you can cycle them until the first one is back off cd again.

I’ve run solo without a pet for years and I would pick petless mm any day to solo over a boomkin.

Just amazes me how many hunters don’t even know what buttons they have because a pet means they never have to push them.

That depends completely on the elite, they’re not all the same. I use CC all the time in Special Assignments (it’s world content the OP is crying about.)

And I love that for you, but the fact is that there are tons of boomkins out there doing solo content just fine.

Completely agree… Same can be said for mm hunters without pets, I do solo content just fine. I believe the elites in question were the ones that can’t be cc’d, which is why I used boomkin as an example. All good though I love you too.

I feel you. Have no idea why would they get rid of Pete for hunters. But you can expect many changes with these new blizzard employees and their policies.

Just be happy wow is not like Veilguard

The difference is that you are lying and the dude must be telling the truth, scale matter when making things up, remember this for the next time.

Wait, you indicated that Druid utility doesn’t work on some Elites yet list Hunter utilities that also don’t generally work on some Elites?

While I agree that most Hunters are not using their utility effectively or even at all, and that a no-pet MM Hunter is definitely feasible, let’s not pretend that the Hunter utility makes up for all the things other classes have at their disposal. Each class is effective in certain area’s and not so much in others. The MM Hunter, with or without pet, typically thrives in a group. Whether this is with other players or with a pet. I’m not saying the proposed class changes shouldn’t happen, there just needs to be choice built in with them.

THANK YOU! this is what some of us have been trying to get across, the pet is, more or less, our party when we are not in a party when we play MM.

If this is retail, just kill the mobs before they reach you.

I was telling the person who replied to me that the original conversation was about elites that were immune to cc… but their post also insinuated that druids have more cc than hunters, which isn’t true… Yes theirs is spammable, but also vulnerable to DR whereas we have enough on different DR’s to cycle without issue.

I wasn’t intending on it reading as if I was saying Hunter CC works on CC immune elites, you are correct that it does not.

I could have misunderstood, but I think their point was that Hunter pets ARE a large chunk of our utility, and if you remove pets from the picture, we lose utility.

(Yes, I know Blizzard is decoupling pet utility from pets for MM in PTR.)

That’s how I understood it… :woman_shrugging:t3:

Except for me standing around counting them in a busy area and seeing 16 MM hunters and 14 had pets

thats crazy I was in a busy area just now and saw 32 mm hunters with no pet
