If I buy a weapon or armor how long will it be effective?

Just wondering dose the item conform to my characters current level or is there a set time period it will be useful for (Ex level 5-10). Kinda doubt it will be a one purchase and never need another but I’m throwing that idea on the table to.

Its useful until you find something better

Buy? Weapon?

Item quality has a certain (hidden) level affix to them.
I think green quality is +2 levels of the level (requirement) shown, and blue quality +5 levels?
That should give you an indication of how long it would last.

Hmm okay then thanks

Are you talking about Classic Era, Classic TBC, or retail?

Retail does have items that scale with your level. They are called Heirlooms.

Classic Era doesn’t have any items like that, and I don’t believe TBC does either.

Depends on the item in question (and for which classes).

Like for warriors, weapons can last a very long time if you get the right one while leveling.
The Whirlwind Axe from the Lv30 warrior class quest is very, very good, ESPECIALLY if you can get it right at Lv30 and not around Lv40 (which is when you’ll likely get the weapon if you can’t get someone to help you kill the elite). In either case, you will likely won’t need to replace that until around Lv43 when you can upgrade it to the Executioner’s Cleaver. That’s basically 13 levels worth of usage.

Similar deal with the Ice Barbed Spear from the Alterac Valley quest. It’s a Lv60 quality spear that you can get right at Lv51. So it’ll carry you all the way to outland (or endgame if you’re playing on SoM/Classic).
