Just like every other “Blizzard Feature”, it will be successful until they start monetizing “Blizzard Store Item Only” items. After that, the complaints will roll in, and then people stop using it.
Having tried that game, I don’t need housing to tell you that. Just about everything in WoW is better, in my opinion.
All I know is ESO and it’s egregiously micro transactions based to the point Mr Beast would go broke trying to buy and fully furnish each home
That’s my concern
After the failure of Everquest Next and their mishandling of Landmark… I’ll take my chances and stick with WoW XD
Already left for a while to suffer FFXIV. While I did enjoy a few expansions I will admit you run out of things to do outside of housing and self made entertainment…
After being held hostage for several years so I didn’t lose my FFXIV house. I’m fine if WoW has some growing pains with this new system. I know people like to say “Oh WoW is late and they copied this system” well… they have had all these years to study and watch what works.
also Brad McQuaid isnt around anymore. it’s gonna be tough, but who knows. maybe it’ll be alright.
Quite right. But facts do. And the fact is that the FF14 shop is massive. Yes, blizz has removed things from the store over time (IDK if FF14 does the same, I think it does), but if blizz had a half the quantity of items that FF14 did, the amount of people having heart attacks on GD would make a cardiologist suffer from heart failure.
As I said, anyone who cannot acknowledge that sheer scale of the difference between the 2 stores is super gaslighting themselves.
I dunno. They are boasting some 3 year deadline and a 30 million budget. I’d wager it’ll be a mobile game at best. I know people like to point fingers and have the one person be at fault for a whole game… but there are many hands in the pot and after watching and playing Landmark, and see what didn’t happen with Everquest Next. I’m just not holding my breath.
Next real MMO I’m expecting anything from is IF Riot ever releases their game… XD Even then… I don’t expect it to topple WoW, maybe FFXIV as the game can’t seem to figure out how to be exciting to where even their own Youtube community has to try to hype up each patch.
I doubt it. They didn’t revamp Glamour when Blizzard retooled Transmog with the collection system, and doing so would be much more effective at generating goodwill with the playerbase than changing the entire backend for their housing system so everyone can have an Estate when, frankly speaking, most of their customers are satisfied with an Apartment.
Or most have an apartment because it’s all they can get.
If they don’t improve then it will just be another plus for WoW vs FF14.
One aspect of WoW’s housing will already be better than FF14’s, availability.
FF14 would need some changes for me to even consider giving the game my sub
Ugh, wish they’d make a third installment of Champions of Norrath/Return to Arms.
I payed FFXIV for 6 months during the SL Pathfinder spitegate and really liked it. As a filthy casual I found it much friendlier to my playstyle. And I thought the crafting system was WAY better than the mess WoW has now. If it had a token I’d be playing it still. And if WoW ever loses the token I’ll be paying Square my sub fee. Although delves are a huge step in the right direction.
WoW won’t have this so FF14 is better by default :

Why go to FFXIV when in WoW housing it cannot be sold or destroyed? All that work to decorate it, just to lose it? NO thanks. Hard pass.
I don’t think how blizzard can please everyone on housing )or anything)… since a segment of players have asked for housing repeatedly and for years people will rip it apart with criticism. So even if I think it’s good or maybe you think it’s good. I except it to go down like this - first couple weeks praise happiness and cheers.
After a month maybe two the praise will probably devolve to discontent.
I don’t get why people make it a thing to pit other games against WoW. It’s so strange. People can enjoy multiple things.
It’s so bad that even classic andies war with retail andies, its literally the same game just one is an older version and one is recent. Lol.
Why do I keep hearing this sentiment echo?
FFXIV’s crafting system is garbage. More engaging, sure, but garbage. You still need two or three stats to make good stuff, but with the added “bonus” of having to maintain even more gear, and get items from even more jobs just to do the one you want.
People praise the crafting system there as if it’s some sort of ingenious breakthrough, when it has a literal mobile game mechanic displayed on screen as a “mini-game” to finish your craft.
Comparing our current system to that of FFXIV’s is disingenuous as best, and trolling at worst. They’re not even in the same ballpark.
I was waiting for folks to come out the wood works to misinformation FF14 but I could only find opinions. Kudos folks.
Though I think it’s only fair to note that FF14’s profession system is so boring people one-button macro it. The engagement is the tedium/repetition of the whole thing. WoW’s professions are tedious as well but it’s gimmicks are long-winded cooldowns. Not a perpetual management of resources/procs/etc for higher percent chances of xyz.
FFXIV housing is utterly rancid. 999 gorillion shmuckles for a bungalow in the poorest slum of confettiville
i genuinely tried FFXIV for a good while and got halfway through the level cap before the incessant yapping drove me away
FF14 looks better than wow by alot and even the mogs are better
