And they direct you to a website where you have to fill a resumé like questionnaire. Run for the hills!
Usually it’s one of those guilds who funnel the raid gear to the gm and his friends or Girlfriend.
That’s pretty oldschool, we just have a discord interview now
I was going to say that used to be fairly common when the game started.
Most guilds that organized will be glad you ran.
Most guilds don’t even have a website anymore i reckon
Standard for some older guilds.
We used to do it.
Nowadays though we’re not as serious about recruitment and usually rely on the inviting member to vette the invitee.
I feel like Discord pretty much phased them out like late WoD I want to say? Early Legion maybe?
The last one I actually used was back in MoP.
The best guild I was ever in required an old school web app. Shows you’re actually invested enough to apply so you get good people. RIP recent developments sadly.
Definitely better than the auto invite guilds let me tell ya.
We stopped ours early legion, had to convince people to try discord lol.
It screams of elitism and gatekeeperism
Was very common with roleplaying guilds in the past. It was the first hurdle to get an in-game interview. It became overwhelming when I decided I just wanted to find a social guild for chat. Eventually, I just gave up trying to find a guild.
If any guild invites you without getting you to do this or a chat on cord, run for the hills lol.
Guilds that don’t have an app process are 95% of the time just a cesspool
Not saying you don’t have some sort of APP, just having a website app and not like a google docs app is pretty oldschool at this point.
All 3 guilds I played with since 8.3 have had an application and a discord interview that lasted about 20 minutes. The applications let me just lay out my past experiences and link out my logs and stuff.
Last guild website I used was back in MoP.
My current guild was the first one where I actually used Discord for an interview. Everything else was basically through word of mouth, references and being contacted directly by guilds.
I’d say that if a guild would take you without any sort of interview or filtering, you should run for the hills.
I think OP is the perfect example of why some people these days have such a hard time finding an enjoyable experience in game.
WoW is an MMO. It’s been out for a long time. The novelty has worn off, people are no longer tickled by “playing online” anymore and now, it’s as important as ever to talk to people you plan on playing with to see if you/your guild and they have aligned expectations.
Because so many problems these days with guilds and pugs (really any time strangers come together) is knowing what the other wants and vice versa to make sure you’re not wasting each other’s time. This is where so much animosity comes from and it’s easily avoidable if you just take the time to have a conversation.
Thanks OP for the reminder!
Hell, I remember back when I was in a raiding guild and we had a website just for organizing the roster, and people had to sign up for each team when they had slots and stuff, and you had to apply to be on the bench too. Long time that.
Mainly those apps are for higher end raiding guilds given their tryng to push CE or something similar of the sort. I
Website app to a guild has been a MMO thing since EQ, it was a way to vet the person you were inviting into your community. Lately most guilds have moved on to just Discord interview to try and get to know them.
