If Dragon riding is so good

I love dragon riding 800+ speed sure beats 310. But I also enjoy the usefulness and diversity of the “normal” mounts.
Why not allow both types of flight, in all zones.

oh, heavens, they will be doing so. Just probably not until halfway. It’s been asked and answered quite a bit with no definitive date - just an educated guess.! (Except not in previous zones)
edited to remove a little unintended snark (sry about that)

I’m sure they will. To do it at start trivializes certain things intentionally added to DF—such as the difficult to reach dragonriding upgrades.

“If dragonriding is so good, why dont they allow both types of flying?” Is a weird and nonsensical take.

In any case, it’s coming. Soon ™. And as soon as we have both flights side by side, this will open a whole new suite of complaints.

Did I miss the official response somewhere? I love going fast, but sometimes I really need just above stall speed.

Give a little longer for the newness to wear off, normal flying will be back.

I’m sure they will. in the preach interviews, they talked a lot about how they want to design systems to last.

But given that dragon customization exists with rewards offered for rep and dungeons and the like, I doubt they’ll take the focus off the dragons and all that during the expac. The pre-patch (or one of the late patches for the expac) will probably expand it to the rest of the world.

I hope they never add normal flying and instead replace normal sky swimming with dragonriding for all flying mounts in all zones.

Why does it need to be one or the other, why not make all flying mounts have a regular and a vigor system?

because it doesn’t feel like flying at all. there is nothing fun about sky swimming.

Because Blizz is afraid of invalidating their new and innovative expansion gimmick. DR is nowhere near the ability that is in GW2. Those mounts are more dynamic and actually flap their wings, amongst other things.

Blizz knows most of us will ditch our DR mounts and play around with our old mounts if given the chance.

I kind of equate it to being in a helicopter. Helicopters fly too (most of the time).

Sometimes I’m not looking for fun while flying though, I want to go mining and pick flowers, and I would rather do that on a normal flying mount, to each his own, more choices is always better than no choice.

I was thinking about that yesterday the only thing I could come up with is people using regular mounts to farm nodes with the scripted bot hacks, basically tons of druids running around farming everything using travel and flight forms

I assume the delay is that they’re gonna revamp old flying in some ways so it isn’t so vastly outclassed by Dragon Riding.

Helicopters still have that gliding mechanic, with the ability to hover but they will spin ever so slightly and you need to adjust the tail spin to compensate. It isn’t straight forward. When you fly a helicopter in real life, you sort of fly into the tail wing and glide sideways at a 15 to 45 degree angle depending on how fast you are going.

Forget Dragonriding, I want Dragonswimming mechanics

Sorry for the, off the cuff remark, I edited it. I’d rather go slower as well sometimes - well, most of the time. Probably because I’m a terrible flyer! lol

Agreed as far as choices in the Dragon Isle’s, but not in the previous zones. That would be a terrible idea that I hope they aren’t even considering. Going forward, sure, many players won’t be happy going slower now. This is the new shiny toy they’ve slowly been indoctrinating us into since MoP when the outcry against getting rid of flying all together was so massive.

Now we’ll probably get both eventually, but hopefully not in the older zones. I mean how will new players even compete starting in older zones against mega-flyers in the sky around them and they haven’t even reached the Dragon Isle’s to learn. The second they finally level up to flying at all - well, it would be crazy to expect to learn then.

It’ll be interesting to watch how the implementation of leveling and flying works from here on out.

Because having two flying systems is dumb and bloated

“Why not just keep everything ever in the game and players choose which one” isn’t a good strategy for making a coherent game

They should allow normal flying until you reach max level, then make it where the dragon flying is the norm going forward after dragonflight
