If Classic becomes a roaring success 9.0 return of talent trees?

It would be the case if they reworked the leveling system as have been hinted. I think we might get a new shinier version of Talent Trees but with each spec only being optimal if you go all in on one branch.

Saw a video and see that most of the Old Dev team were back including Ghostcrawler. He had on a Blizzard shirt! Might be teaching Mr. Ion a thing or two about game dev.

I think in order to gage whether or not it is a roaring success we’ll need to give it a year to 18 months. Maybe 2 years.

I always enjoy seeing how players’ perception of things changes as WoW moves on. GC used to be treated with the same kind of hate that Ion gets now.

Not to mention they are likely already pretty far into development of 9.0 already. We wouldn’t see any impact for at least one more expansion, if not longer.

edit: Also to the OP, having to go all in to one spec to be optimal would pretty much kill the whole purpose.

I dunno what you are talking about, i loved him from day one. His bring the player not the class motto netted Wow its biggest audience ever.

@Meritha. That how you balance people from being over powered at 20/20/20. You can be a jack of all trade and master of none. Or you can go all into a talent tree and get optimal ablities for that spec but in return you do not get ultilties from ther other two.

You aren’t GD. GD, as a whole, disliked him as much as they dislike Ion. That’s great you didn’t, I didn’t either, but that’s not what was said.

That’s a much better way to get me to try classic than the usual you’re bad if you don’t taunts.

Not everyone hated him, but there were a lot of people that treated him like Satan Incarnate (much like Ion gets) and cheered when he left.

Not likely.

2 expacs they put stuff in gear we have to worship the RNG gods for and grind in dungeons. They want us on RNG in retail . First a weapon that needed legendaries to complement it. Now the armour and a neck.

Way I see the tree in classic…We still grind. But its not for RNG, its just levels. I know with X amount of work I will get this level point for the talent. Why my interest in it.

In theory…the latter has us play less potentially. Insert tin foil theory all this RNG crap legendary now azurite gear is to boost time played metrics. We can’t even be done since what we need is buried in RNG. And unless truly special and lucky RNG never gives you 100% of what you want lol.

I think what netted him unfair hate was the motto of Bring the Player not the class. It broke roles sterotype and made everyone valid and certain class less special.

Coming in from TBC I can see why that would be jarring. But he double Wow sub numbers by doing so.

Ghostcrawler is responsible for Cataclysm and the removal of talents in Mist of Pandaria.

As many things as I miss about Classic, the talent trees aren’t one of them. At least for druid, most talents in each row are actually good at different things, and respeccing is useful. I don’t relish going back to pure cookie cutter.

I don’t really want them going back to Classic, going forward. Classic is there if you want it.

Imagine being this deluded. Classes are ALL cookie cutter now. There’s no difference between any of the classes, except the names of abilities.

In WoW before Cata/MOP you had the talent trees that were customizable to your playstyle and feeling. Yes there are some spec trees you can follow that are good, but you can do whatever you want and get by pretty well.

GC is still at Riot. He hasn’t returned to Blizzard, and I kinda doubt he ever will. Not for along while, anyhow, and certainly not unless it’s a step up from his current position.

Also he is not one of the ‘original’ creators. He wasn’t hired until February 2008 (3½ years after WoW went live) to work on WotLK.

And also you can do the entire game without joining a guild now.

Ghostcrawler used to get some of the worst vitrol that I’ve seen in a long time… and not to mention that he was the one who dropped the whole RealID thing on the forums (at least I think it was him)… Ion gets his hate, but Ghostcrawler had a lot more players throwing hate. (Based on number of people playing then vs now)

That’s a fair point. I think you may be right, he likely got more overall… Ion just gets the louder ones.

Looking at my resto talent rows right now, I can name circumstances where literally every available talent is useful for PVP, certain M+ affixes, or a certain progression raid boss.

Every single one.

Thinking back to playing a warrior classic through Wrath, there was one Arms build, one Fury build, and one Prot build. That was it. And the Arms and Fury builds were based around going just far enough to pick up their big end talents, then dumping the rest into each other’s trees because the middle of their own trees were bad at their actual specialization.

I think 9.0 should have talent trees any ways. The current devs need to take a leap and shake up this wore out design of talents they have now. We have had this horrid talent system for 7 and 1/2 years now.

PLEASE give us back talent trees.
