would you play it? wow IP or regardless?

Not me, because I don’t enjoy RTS games.

Maybe but I, like many others, have kind of moved away from RTS games as a genre. Hardly anyone is making any because they don’t seem to sell.

Turn based is still fairly big. Total War: Warhammer 3 next week!

pretty sure they’d have trouble selling that after they gave everyone ptsd from the game that shall not be named.

Only if it includes cheat codes. My favorite thing to do to the AI is make a million units and watch the carnage as they flood across the battlefield. Such needs cheats to achieve its full glory.

It depends. I recently replayed through WC3 and enjoyed it. I tried playing through SC2 and just couldn’t. If Blizzard made Starcraft 3 that would be a hard pass for me. If Blizzard made Warcraft 4 that would probably be a day one purchase assuming they weren’t currently embroiled in another scandal (I cancelled reforged due to Blitzchung incident - dodged a bullet there for sure).

No, as I can’t handle the stress nor the APM the genre requires anymore.

I do once in awhile go into a 7 vs 1 comp stomp and just rotflmao

Probably not. I suck at strategy games. I played warcraft with cheats.

they still almost automatically hand out refunds lol. one of the top things on the WC3 reforged forums is installation instructions for OG WC3 it’s hilarious.

Only after the “Warcraft 3: Refunded” drama started proper in full swing. I definitely recall there was a period of time where it was a hassle to refund.

I’d consider it, but it wouldn’t be a guaranteed purchase.

The WC3 retread wasn’t great.

Starcraft 2 was okay, but the five-year span it took to actually deliver the products to finish the story made it very easy to lose interest in it.

Why? RTS is a dead genre. Anything related to RTS is now Grand Strategy.

Most definitely yes. As long as it doesn’t play like Warcraft 3 with upkeep and stupid ideas like that! I want an RTS game where I can build a massive base and field massive armies. If they can pull off something more similar to Warcraft 2, I’d be all for it.

Yeah, that’s part of the problem with the RTS genre - who does RTS appeal to?

Those who enjoy purely the strategy elements have other genres to play where their reflexes don’t hold them back. Those who prefer twitch experiences have other games to play where they aren’t held back by not studying various build orders. Those who enjoy team fights have other games they can play where they don’t have to go through the motions of building bases. RTS is a jack of all trades master of none type situation, which was a pioneer in video games but it really more of an intermediate step towards the final evolution of specific facets of gameplay.

I want Warcraft 4 because it is more Warcraft and also the RTS elements are a bit more tempered and the RPG elements are more apparent, making it more palatable than “pure RTS” like Starcraft, but it’s basically nostalgia driving my interest. In some independent studio made their own Warcraft 4 without the IP, unless they really knocked it out of the part with the story and mission design it would feel outdated.

The truth is, the market has mostly spoken in regard to RTS. If RTS was as popular as RTS fans pretend, then more RTS games would exist.

I have a feeling the new Warcraft Mobile game that’s been hinted at is going to be an RTS. My guess is it’s going to be a lot like WC3 though with some “Clash of Clans” type elements, but the big real money transaction feature will probably be different heroes that they’ll be able to pump out with relative ease, since that sort of monetization come with a lot less stigma than the “pay to bypass” features games like Clash of Clans has.

Different purchasable skins for hero units would be a money maker for sure. I think I remember that before WC3: Reforged bombed they talked about the idea of being able to pay for premium skins you could use on ladder, like having Thrall replace your generic Far Seer etc. If the game were good, I would definitely pay for different skins like that.

i hope to god that’s true, I won’t even touch the mobile game if it’s main gameplay loop is waiting.

Mobile games for me are just things to do while you got downtime at work or stuck twiddling your thumbs. With gameplay loops where the main thing is waiting I might as well just wait until I can get home and play actual games lol.
