I don’t play Resto at all so I have no clue what would synergize. But I’m starting this thread on all of the healing class forums and am curious to know what you guys can come up with.
I think Blizzard should add a damage component to all healers’ masteries.
Easy, just make it like enhances ele dmg from mastery but like 50% less so it’s not too crazy
It would probably be too strong but it would be kinda cool if the damage component was an inverse of the healing’s function. Ie mastery is % more healing based on missing health, so damage would be %(but much less) more damage based on remaining health. Gameplay wise it would also just feel nice since oftentimes when you are doing healer damage it is on pull when the damage hasn’t gone out yet or to help with damage checks which are often adds.
Could just do the torghast power that makes healing rain do dmg.
Imo they should change rsham mastery to the Azerite power that made riptide give a shield to the target. Then give that shield a reflect effect that causes targets hitting into it to take damage.
Why? Healers in a group should focus on keeping the group alive not on how much damage cant they inflict. Especially with Resto shamans. Pallys and Monks are designed to damage while healing. Thats why those classes are the on the go healers. Resto shamans, Resto Druids, Priest, any other class that I might have forgotten are and should always remain as dedicated healers.
That is the problem I see a lot in the game. When out soloing content self heals are amazing to have. Especially against really tough mobs. Yet when you are in a group you need healers that are dedicated to healing, you need the DPS to be dedicated to just smashing the mobs, and tanks as well need to be dedicated tanks. I think blizzard in groups should turn off the self heal spells to allow the healers to do their jobs. Which is keeping everyone alive and not focus on having to deal damage or anything else.
Thats my view.

It makes mastery a undesirable stat in a number of ways. The biggest issue is that vers/crit/haste have more general use while mastery is immediately a dead stat once you hit “enough” healing on any given content. Mastery at the best of times isn’t a healthy stat to begin with for most of its existence anyway since its inherently situational. Its not a matter of turning resto into a dps spec its a matter of making the stat more versatile since unlike the other three it just doesn’t work for certain situations.

I absolutely despise this mentality. So what do you do when there is no healing required? Healers just supposed to take their hands off the keys and twiddle their thumbs?

Well since I am enhancement I dont have that issue. I know my role is to smash my hammer into the face of the boss when I am in a group. If you are in a group as a healer and cant heal someone then maybe your not being challenged enough. Which is also why I commented on the fact that Blizzard really should turn auto healing off every class/spec that isnt a healer when its only in a group.
If there’s nobody to heal, then you should absolutely be doing damage as a healer. If a healer just tops everyone and then stands around doing nothing or overhealing, they’re not a good healer. Always be casting. The faster the boss/trash dies, the less damage the party takes, the less damage needs to be healed. The mark of a good healer is balancing dps and heals.

Ok so as an enhancement you never press your defensives? Never use healing stream? That’s the same argument you’re making for healers, and it’s a reallllly bad one.
Damage patterns in this game are designed to come in waves, and this statement seems to come from a deep well of ignorance on that design. There can be periods where you need to put out 30k hps, and others where there is zero damage.
The tiny amounts of healing that dps classes do mean almost nothing. For any significant amount of healing to come from a dps they usually have to take a massive damage loss, what are you talking about?
