I don’t think it’s possible to get banned for abusing the flag system. For on the forums or in-game. I think worst case scenario, they remove your ability to flag. But, even then this:
Is such a broad statement that technically, the player reporting someone is never falsely reporting because they can simply say they deemed it unacceptable. So, in essence, there is no such thing as someone abusing the flag system.
The system is already being abused by players in retail and blizzard has not taken a single action for it. If this abusive feature makes it into classic then I don’t think pirate servers will die at all because many players are not going to pay for a game in which they can arbitrarily have their gameplay completely squelched by the whim of other players.
We have already seen players openly admit that they will target specific other posters simply to disrupt their gaming experience. They have stated that they will even go to the point of creating characters on other servers to do so.
Will those posters report only “true violations”? I cannot say for sure, but I have serious doubts that they will report only “true violations”.
I avoid all of this by assuming everyone outside of my guild is probably an idiot (fourteen years of watching you people interact with each other bears this conclusion out pretty easily) and avoiding chat channels altogether. Makes things much easier.
In other words the OP wants to be able to use Vulgarity, Racial insults, and Sexist insults without having the rules against such to be enforced against him/her.
Sounds more like the OP, and the Cheerleaders of his demands, are those who are getting their feelings hurt when someone points out that they have broken the rules and must pay for.
Oh look all of the right click/squelch threads were all bumped to the top within minutes of each other. Adding nothin at all to the duscussion. Just a fluff bump.
Nah. Not a coordinated effort though. It’s just a hot topic. Lol
Ya don’t even need a tin foil hat tauren dropping detector to see this.
Look at the rampant flagging going on with the forums for just a difference of opinion.
The systen will get abused especially when folks are having to use public channels to find groups
lol, speaking in the abstract. At no point in 14 years have I joined Trade/General chat and found myself thinking “Wow, what a stimulating and thoughtful series of social interactions I’m witnessing here!” It’s just lunacy.
So he (and others) won’t pay to re-activate their account, the point remains that keeping an active mob rule system in the game will lose Blizzard $$$…
If you already forgot, trolling is a thing, and the right-click report function ignores those people instead of taking up an ignore slot.
One of the biggest fears from the Classic community is Retail players coming in to troll them in trade or general chat or whatever, and in droves.
I saw this actually happen during Vanilla. I played on Argent Dawn (RP-PvE) and whenever Blackrock or some other PvP server would crash, they would roll level 1 gnomes or tauren and spam trade chat to the point you couldn’t see anything other than their spam for an untold amount of time until their own realms were back online. You either had to turn off trade or ignore all of them, and you ran out of ignore slots.
Whatever your concerns for auto-block are, don’t forget that many of the people looking forward to Classic do not care about PvP whatsoever.
If this is somehow your issue, I and certainly much of the RP community will not share this problem.
I don’t understand why people cant just ignore a user but instead have to make sure the person they don’t like has their day ruined. Auto-silence will ruin the game.
Everyone knows “censor” is a fact. But who is deciding what will be censored? It is ActiBlizz in this application. It is their game, their rules, their TOS. I have no problem with that, the problem is that ActiBlizz giving the power to censor/squelch to the hands of 12 years old children is and should be the problem to be discussed.
The people who blindly think only the immature is against this auto silence feature is just fooling themselves. I know how to behave, I am over 45 but have honest doubts this so called “auto silence/squelch” will be abused more than they think.
And as ActiBlizz adding this feature not to hire more GMs, I do not believe they will encourage their GMs fight back against the false reporters. Prejudging the community before it is build up and giving them a tool to silence is not the right way to give out trust. In this application ActiBlizz is prejudging us with an immature attitude.
Everything worked by itself many years ago, we will be fine, we do not need ActiBlizz or 12 yo parenting our behaviors, community have done it before and will do it again, thanks for listening.
I’ve been playing since Vanilla, and abuse is always going to happen, no matter what. The difference will be whether what abuse can be prevented.
Before auto-reporting, everyone had to either /ignore the players or just turn off chat. This was especially bad when large numbers of players would spam.
Now, the biggest fear I’ve seen regarding this feature is Retail players “invading” Classic. Most here probably have never had to suffer an invasion from another server in Vanilla.
I did. Argent Dawn, an RP-PvE server, was frequently “visited” by PvP servers who trolled and spammed while their servers were unstable or down for whatever reason. Dozens of different “visiting” players would spam trade and general, and there was nothing to be done except ignore everyone (always fun when you have a limited number of ignore spaces) or just turn off trade.
Systems that promote a guilty until proven innocent don’t have a place in an MMO. I know they only reason they want this system is to reduce the amount of support staff they need, but in a game that requires people to work together for most task beyond farming it causes more trouble then benefit in my opinion.
This is a good example. I agree with this sentiment, but the way it’s presented is in violation(masked language) and their delivery is not exactly tactful and could be considered offensive to some.
Maybe they always chat like this, which would drive me nuts.
Am I offended? No. If I could take advantage of the system and spoil this players day by reporting him, would I? No.
