Permit %-based scaling bonuses for accounts that have honor level <x (or based on some other way to measure lack of player experience in PVP).
This is the sensible way to get new players into the game. It’s a handicap (such as what’s done in games like Go). Anneal the bonus down as time/experience progresses, so it’s not a sharp cliff for the player, but make it very apparent to the player that such a handicap is being given and what level it’s at.
New PVPers should not have to contend with having not only less skill & game knowledge in PVP, but also worse gear (which they necessarily will have since they haven’t farmed honor/conquest)! Pretty discouraging!
Combined with every other PvP game usually being a jump in and play usually more balanced to without a massive learning curve.
Imagine having a choice between a game that probably requires at least 300 odd hours of strictly getting farmed just to learn enough and have enough gear to have the chance to compete
And a game where everyone is equal and usually the only difference is reaction time and loadout that is also available to all players.
I know which game I’d pick if I cared about a competitive semi balanced PvP game.
How do you avoid the 10 char limit? You have skill.
I think what you’re saying is somewhat reasonable, however, I don’t think new PVPers will go to rated BGB by default. They will find it too intimidating, and the natural thing for new PVPers to do (which makes total sense) is to try their hand at unrated content first.
They won’t, which is why I am saying they need to be directed to do so. An in-game prompt for when they try to queue explaining the benefits could help them. ATM they just naturally filter to random BGs, where they absolutely get destroyed for all of the reasons you listed above.
Meh, new players should be buying gear off the AH or doing Epics to farm honor gear. Epics give you the most honor ( assuming you can avoid the cancerous pre-mades ) and let you try out things without having a noticeable impact on the game.
no scaling please. any wow content requires a little effort to atain some gear.
pvp is no different. otherwise we should all just zone in naked. thats how ludicris this is and every now and then people have been floating this topic…just put some effort in. thats all it takes a little effort.
Any soloq teamwork based competitive pvp needs a minimum item level floor.
Undergeared people just don’t hurt themselves, they hurt everyone on their team and I personally would not appreciate losing MMR because someone is using last season’s gear in a Blitz and end up on my team instead of the other team.
base level ilvl is acceptable but scaling is not. hidden math is not a solution and a symptom of systems not working. And I doubt you and me are gonna be on the recieving end of poorly geared players. at least i wont be. once you get near 2k mmr if you see an undergeared player its because they are swinging a mighty hammer
Nobody wants BFA scaling, which was a disaster. Just straight up WOD style scaling, which is simple and effective works. That is what was used last season for Blitz.
I don’t think it’s sufficient though. I think the psychological effects/intimidation of playing in rated content will deter new players, regardless of the benefits. Simply saying that the content is rated puts pressure on players to perform at their best, and will give them the feeling of not wanting to let their teammates down (especially if they perceive that the rating matters to their teammates).
The objective should be to simply get players into playing at all, and ideally winning at least some of the time, even for the least experienced/skilled of players. The handicap should be the gateway drug providing the high of winning, so that they play at all and can get over the hump of inexperience to gain some true skill.
templates is not a solution bro. hard no from me. I can’t support any type of scaling like that.
i can get down with raising min ilvls up so gearing players aren’t at a mass disadvantage. … my final offer
