If Anduin leaves, should the Lion be removed?

I assume the Lion is related to the Wrynn dynasty. Lorderon, Gilneas, and Arathi doesn’t have a lion.

If Turalyon ascends, by logic, the Alliance should get a new banner.

Yes? I don’t think anyone would reasonably argue lol.

The Alliance Banner under Turalyon

Why would he “ascend” is he a relative of Anduin? it’s a feudal society people don’t vote for kings.

If Anduin does abdicate for whatever reason, he needs to name a successor, or risk a succession war.

I don’t think the lion is connected to Wrynn so much as it is the symbol of Stormwind the Alliance at this point. Anduin Lothar (also known as the Lion of Stormwind) wore a lion head on his armor as well. But he was from the Arathi bloodline.

And then from warcraft 2 under King Llane, torn flag of Azeroth:

The nobles do, apparently.

And thats how a war starts, I bet the Wrynns do have relatives, cadet or distant that might believe they have a better claim than a foreign pretender.

This. Blizzard loves Horde too much to care. Honestly surprised they even bothered to put Turalyon in SW keep.

If anything Varian was called a wolf… so I don’t think Anduin stepping down is gonna change the banner… the current ruler has no bearing on the faction’s signia.

No. It should stay.

And Turalyon is just a steward.

Turalyon is the Regent of Stormwind at the moment, and since Anduin has no descendants or siblings, he’s most likely the de facto successor. Similarish situation to Lor’themar, he was regent in absentia until Kael’thas’ death. I don’t remember why he keeps the title, most likely because the image of monarchy in Quel’thalas has soured, even though he basically serves that same role.
But that would cause problems if Azerothian politics were realistic. Good thing they aren’t.
Lion imagery (along with eagles) is a huge part of warcraft human, especially Stormwind, culture and I think it’s more connected to the kingdom and broader Alliance than house Wrynn. IIRC Lordaeron was the longtime seat of the Alliance, until it fell and Stormwind became the new center. I don’t know if the lion was already associated with the Alliance before the fall of Lordaeron.
(This is just idea dumping here out)-
Turalyon has a descendant (a son). In a theoretical timeline where Anduin dies without another successor named/heir, would Turalyon’s son inherit leadership from him, and create a new dynasty? Or would leadership be hot-potatoed like horde warchiefs? If Azeroth was realistic, I’d imagine a Lordaeronian family (with one not being 100% Human, which would be a first) gaining long-term control of Stormwind could warrant some controversy, although Turalyon is a venerated war hero and respected paladin. He has the nobles’ support anyway.

Being regent doesn’t make you king, the blood elves are in some what of a different situation, they are all scattered and the old aristocracy would of have been mostly wiped out by the scourge, traditional succession rules might not be as important in those situations.

Stormwind is different, the kingdom isn’t ravaged by war, or suffering from an aftermath of a war where people might consider “new management”.

Also the whole plan to have Anduin abdicate is bizarre, I don’t think the writers really thought through what something like that actually means, other than the fact that it is completely unnecessary, as king Anduin can do whatever he wants, if he feels like stepping back for a rest he is free to do so, a kings council takes care of the day to day duty of running the realm anyway.

Just being king he is a stabilizing force for the kingdom, historically murky successions lead to bloodshed, so as a king he has a responsibility to not abdicate.

Good lord stormwind is going to be so cringe with him on the throne

kRoNAKAI KrIsToR citizen!

Ugh :expressionless:

It’s the symbols of Anduin Lothar.

This as nothing to do with the royal family of Stormwind.

It seems less like abdication and more like a king’s version of a sabbatical lol. He has a lot of responsibility, yes, but there’s so much input and influence anyway.
IIRC Turalyon became regent when Anduin & co. were yoinked into the Maw? Your king getting kidnapped to another dimension would probably be considered a crisis, although as usual that didn’t translate well.

If Anduin leaves, I leave.

Tired of Alliance getting the shaft. When Varian died it was honestly sad. Don’t take away my Anduin too.

Suck it up buttercup, at least you didn’t have 2 expansions ending with taking your (now evil) leadership down and killing the other one…
