I am farming Xy’rath the Covetous and every day it has a chance of spawning. Do rares that have a chance of spawning happen at daily reset? I.e. 7:00 am pacific time

Most do not. A few of the old ones are tied to weekly reset but most have their own schedule for when they can spawn and they roll to see what hour they spawn at.

So is it best to check every hour to see if it spawned yet?

It is a odd one… the rares in that zone spawn in a rotation some days they won’t spawn at all. The rares there minus the ones in the sandpit all spawn rather frequently once an hour or so.
I would do an hour if he doesn’t show up just try again another day. Farm up some anima for mogs or something.

Ok so for Zerith Mortis rares like
Shadowlands section if it’s not there it won’t spawn today. There’s a set pool of rares for each day that page will have.

Most rares have a little bit of RNG built into their spawn timers… some share spawns with others, so if one is up the other won’t be… some have a spawn window that they have a random chance of spawning at any point during, and others spawn at specific times with a random roll to see which one of their spawn times it will be… only a select few very old rare spawns respawn on daily or weekly reset… most that did originally have been changed over the years too…
Also worth noting a lot of Legion, BfA, & SL rares didn’t actually follow the daily/weekly respawn, but instead simply had daily/weekly loot… some exceptions do exist though
Oh damn this is really useful. Thank you. So is this constantly updating in real time? I.e. if he suddenly decides to spawn today, it will update? Or is it just on a rotation?

He won’t suddenly spawn. It’s a set pool per day.

My suggestion for farming rares is this: keep wow open while you do other things on another monitor.

Yep. I work from home so I have it up on my third monitor.
That rare doesn’t have a long spawn timer. It’s just that if you don’t see the dead pilgrims, they won’t spawn that day.
