If 50% of the player base quit

And demanded that classes be reworked and fixed before even coming back.
Do you think they would put everything else off and instantly start working on the classes despite saying they won’t do changes until next expansion?

Good luck getting 50% of any group of people to agree on anything.

They aren’t doing class overhauls in the middle of an expansion no matter how many tears lubricate the request.

The truth is, Blizzard is already working on 9.0 and have been for a while. This is normal.

depending on what timeline you start at they technically have lost like 75% lol

No. We are already too close to the next expansion. It would make more sense to work it into the expansion than put everything on hold.

They need this story arch to play out in order to move to the expansion as well, so putting it on hold would be too detrimental to the health of the game as a whole.

I really don’t. I think activision would just cut the game altogether and call it quits.

We’re in a place where they feel they have to milk the few remaining players they do have as hard as possible in as many ways as possible since they think their chances of recapturing old players or bringing in new ones is slim-to-none. If they find out that tactic isn’t working? Game servers get shut down and they move on.

They can’t be bothered to put actual effort into a decade old game where a majority of the pie is gone and the talent on the dev team is abysmal.

…and flying, among other things, is STILL a mess!

Nope. Because multimillion dollar video game productions have schedules to keep. Reworking classes, to the degree players want to see, would take months.

After the reworks, all current content would then need to be reiterated numerous times to fix any glaring balance issues, which in turn would require further class ability changes, and those changes would need to be reiterated further against current content – this is why a major rework of classes isn’t remotely feasible mid-expansion.

Well, if you remember WoD and Blizz bragging they had over 10m subs at the beginning of the expansion … then within 3-4 months they lost almost half of them upon multiple different “flubs.” (One of which was flying being taken out entirely.) They quickly changed their tone and “introduced” pathfinder. They still took a massive hit to their subs though, several of my long time friends still haven’t returned since then and 100% refuse to do so.

So, if history is any indicator of Blizz’s behavior … then yeah … more likely than not they would; however, I highly doubt the reason you’re providing would cause as much disruption as taking out flying in it’s entirety had on the game. The changes you’re referencing have been subtle and spaced out over a period of time.

It’s similar to the story of how to boil a frog. First putting them in cold water in a sauce pan, then turning the heat on until eventually … well … yeah.

vs

Just tossing them into a boiling pot of water and they immediately jump out.

Same premise which is applicable to the player base when you break it down.

They’d probably go the WoD route. Cancel 8.3 and call BfA done.

if 50% of the playerbase quit, this game would still be successful by any metric that matters including subscriptions. Losing 50% would also make these forums much more civil and the players much more willing to play the game the developers make rather than trying to force the developers to remake the game in their vision of what is and isnt fun.

You figure 50% of players even care about class design ? I play all classes and they aren’t all bad so unless someone is insisting on playing feral or mm hunter they aren’t going to have a problem

I get the distinct impression that they don’t really care how many people quit or why they quit at this point. I think they have had a plan for a few years now for how WoW will be and what direction it will take and are going to stick to it come hell or high water.

Does that include all the content that’s been removed or severely gated? Said content being what attracted so many to this game, in the first place?

TBH I think most people would be happy with just some changes to haste and GCD. Those types of reworks are literally single variables stored in the DB that take 5 seconds to change. Testing them wouldn’t need to be done, either. Just take a look at warcraft logs every week and make small adjustments accordingly.

I think if we all picked a day, any day. We advertised it as the “Blizzard fix your game” day and everyone just took the day off and did not log in. Little to no players logging in at all may get their attention.

(ps: It would be extra devious if we lined it up with the GOT finale.)

Yes, the game devs have a direction and a path and they follow it… all good game design requires sticking to a story path and development path… usually years in advance… sure you have the right to complain, but not a lot can be done about the past… focus on the future… better yet, all the armchair developers who think they know whats best for the game should find a way to work for blizzard and change the direction from the inside rather than out. If you are unwilling to try to get into game development, you’re just complaining to satisfy your rigid need to complain.

No. I get the impression that the devs do not care about player feedback or sub count. They have convinced themselves that they are doing what they think is best for the game and to let the chips fall where they may.

This probably sounds like standard forum vitriol… but I used to be a defender of Blizzard and the devs. Whether it is time or a change in personnel I do not know, but they seem to have reached a place where community feedback is utterly ignored.

Calm down there. I wasn’t complaining. I was giving an opinion. I obviously still enjoy WoW enough to keep an active sub. You need to chill out.
