Idle/Inactive Debuffs Need To Be Removed From Game

I was in the Keep graveyard in a random Wintergrasp, and I saw a debuff saying I had 60 seconds to engage in PvP combat or I would be removed from the BG.

Now, the Keep GY is more than a 60 second run to get out of the keep itself, let alone to find an enemy faction member to tag to remove the debuff. This is ridiculous. I wasn’t AFK. I was ressing in a GY. I barely got out of the Keep and was removed from the BG, then slapped with a 15 minute Deserter debuff to add insult to injury.

This debuff encourages griefing by players simply reporting anyone AFK, and then they have a countdown in order to throw themselves into combat, which is pretty much suicide and then your back in a GY again.

Here is a link to the debuff:

I think this is a terrible solution to a perceived AFK issue.

The debuff exists to give you a chance to stay in the game if you aren’t actually AFK. If there was no debuff you’d just get kicked immediately, not sure how that is better for you.

Actually, there was never an automatic removal. You were (and are) removed from a BG for being actually AFK. This debuff is in addition to that and forcing players to find an enemy player and tag them. There is so much more to BG than PvP combat, i.e. sitting bases, manning cannons, attacking tower, flags, bases, resource gathering in AV, etc.

This doesn’t give you a chance to stay in the BG. It sends you on a frenzied mission to find an enemy player and sacrifice yourself in order to stay in the BG.

This debuff changes the very nature of battlegrounds and is not needed.

There is. If more people had reported you, you wouldn’t get the debuff and would instead would have been immediately removed. If you don’t have the debuff there, you’re just getting kicked with no chance of staying.

The debuff has existed since Cata. It hasn’t changed anything.

Apparently, there was a player messing with other players by giving them the debuff. Most likely a Horde merc. I think you might be missing the point of my post. As a rogue, you are more actively engaged in combat more often. As a beast master hunter, I am resigned to sitting bases a lot and biding my attacks, due to my play style.

Were you involved in any arguments or heated debates in the BG chat prior to the debuff?

Did you see a pug say something like “report Fifeson afk” in the chat?

Did you have 0 damage done on the meters while “defending”?

Always the little details that get left out of these kinds of posts…

i.e. “I was afking and got flagged and this is why the game is dying”.

If you got the debuff while in WG base GY, you were probably sitting around afk for a while. People have to actually flag you to get the debuff, and if you’re faithfully watching the LM flag, you won’t be flagged outside of occasional trolls (I’ve literally never once had it happen and I usually play defense/recap).

This.

The first line of your post = Not this.

Just FYI, that debuff only shows up after another one minute timer debuff. So you actually had two minutes to get out of the keep and enter combat.

At any rate, the debuff should stay. You need more than one person to report you to be flagged (and even more to simultaneously mark you idle to instantly remove you as Bluster said).

It’s not a perfect system but it’s better than nothing.

That’s not how it works, it takes several people reporting you to get the debuff. Can it be abused? Yes. Does this happen often enough to get mad and start a forum post? No.

The only time I even remember getting kicked from a game in the last couple years was from making fun of a premade of 5 on my team who was getting stomped. They all reported me at the same time and I was booted.

More a badge of honor than anything.

This debuff discriminates against Tauren!

  1. If enough players report you as afk, you will be removed immediately.
  2. If you go afk and nobody reports you, you will get the debuff and have to tag a player or a machine or get booted out.

Here’s the one that applies to your situation:

  1. If you die and do not begin to move very soon after rezzing, you will get the debuff. This is to prevent players from taking a quick bio and fixing a drink and a snack when they look and see the timer is at ‘29 seconds’, and actually being afk for 3-5 minutes.

So don’t run out to the other room when you’re waiting to rez.

You afked in the gy
