Identity Crisis w class selection

I just do not know what to play for the life of me. Anyone else struggling with this? Honestly don’t know what class is worth maining anymore. Seems like they’re all FOTM style now. I enjoy casual PvP, mythic+ and some mythic raiding. Nothing seems fun anymore tbh, dont know if its design or just me. Whats everyone been playing long term? any suggestions as far as long time class viability goes? Not trying to hop alts over and over again.

Ret paladin.

I thought about going pally is the funny thing. Ret is pretty fun when geared. Prot pally is faceroll tank. Not sure about holy pally tho ive never healed in WoW before XD

I play dk because of dead grip. Thats the identity of the class that has not been duplicated

Ya’ gotta figure that one out for ya’.

What do you enjoy in WoW? Start with that basic question and then ask consequative questions until you run out of 'em, and when you do, you have an idea of what you want to play:
Melee or ranged,
Lots of utility or just pure dps/healing/tanking,
Versatility of specializations,
Variety in gameplay,
Etc.

Just keep asking questions until you have a list of 10-20 questions that you have answered where some are as basic as “range: melee, medium, or long range” or as esoteric as “when I make a mistake and screw something up, do I want to the the butt of the joke or my class/specialization and if so, what’s the joke.” You’d be surprised with what kind of answers you could get from answering weird questions like those when done in good faith. But you still need the basics of how the character actually plays so you need the basic questions like melee, caster, utility, etc.

I just made a similar post. I have no idea what to play either.
It’s sort of like too many choices that creates decision paralysis, but once you decide you realize all the choices were kinda just meh.

think ima roll mage tbh pure dps. Ranged. Utility. mobility. good damage. decent survivability.

Well, I’m not a fan of the mages.
So, that means you made the right choice!

Druid i have most fun with, and i do have a bit of an affinity for nature, so it works out, but i can identify with most calsses, besides warlock. I love the theme of warlocks, but i just lose interest really quick because i actually dont want to wield dark arts. Doesn’t line up with my personality. Pally is probably next after druid.

Also, abandon the whole Fotm nonsense and just go with what you have fun with. What pumps now will inevitably be nerfed, and content creators piggyback off of it like mad.

Identity Crisis was the first studio album by Thrice. The second track on that album is Phoenix Ignition. You should play a fire mage.

what are those glasses called that ur char has mogged?

I too am struggling, I am a bm hunter through and through but our aoe is sooo bad healers arr out aoeing me and I’m honestly not sure anyone will invite bm to m+ so I leveled up a dk and they perform better but I don’t enjoy it nearly as much and I have no clue what to play going into s1

Play ret, its the bm of melee

play a class that gets consistent updates so if there is ever an issue with anything it’ll get fixed in a somewhat timely fashion

ie; not demon hunter, rogue, or priest

I used to, it took a few years of bouncing around classes but I only play mage now.

It’ll click when it does. I think when you stop worrying about tuning the decision becomes much easier.

I think every body has gone through what you are, I sure know I did. I’ve played warrior from the jump. It’s the class i most identify with play style wise and thematically. Unfortunately that also seems the flavor of the month now, but who cares. It’s what I enjoy.

I was torn between warrior, shaman and monk. I don’t regret my decision one bit. One thing I can say to help though is try out your hero talents for each spec you like. You can read about them all you want but actually trying the abilities out greatly affects the gameplay.

Personally I’d rather have a “lore” reason to play what I want rather than chasing a meta. If your torn on liking multiple classes well, you all share the same camp now  bounce around on all of them to get a feel for identity and your main will sort of choose itself over time

I have this problem and it gets worse with each expansion. In my view, the classes become more homogenized with each one. Every class seems to have an AOE spell now, and a health recovery spell, and a movement burst spell. I don’t feel very unique anymore, so I play a different character almost every other week and nothing feels truly “mine.”

aren’t we all supposed to be auggies now?

the most fun I have had in this game surprised me and is no longer available the way it was when i enjoyed it. it was playing ghost strike rogue with all the sneaky/dodgy talents in TBC classic. the world felt immersive and I was just sneaking around picking pockets, unlocking chests in dungeons, sniping mining nodes, etc. you just don’t need to be sneaky in the game anymore when you can just nuke everything down in 5-10 seconds.

my long time favorite for just banging around the world for WQs and casual PVP has looong been BM hunter. tanky pets make life easy.

but my decision nowadays comes more from two things:

  1. i like to mix up my “main”: each expac. i am an altaholic so I will end up playing 6+ toons anyway.

  2. i want to play what feels best to me in the content I play. I am not pushing the edge of endgame content, so I don’t need a “meta” spec. I need something that fits what I do. I lean towards tanking because I am impatient for getting groups.

I have not mained a druid in a long time. I decided to main guardian.

but druid also lets me heal in pug BGs which is something I also like to do.

I still get to be a sneak when I need/want to.

and gathering is a dream in flight form.

I havent really tried cat or space chicken yet.

not sure which toon I will level next. I sort of like the idea of shadow priest in this expac since it is all voidy and stuff. plus I can heal on it when I want.
