Building off the hype from last forum post.
To progress to phase 2 or level 40
Collect 6 keys which drop from the last boss in BFD. (Requires 6 clears of BFD at level 25)
or
A long quest which requires to find a piece of a item from each low level dungeon, such as deadmines,wailing caverns, and SFK.
or
Some world bosses stitches, perhaps add a few other world bosses for level 25.
Without completing attunement you will be stuck at level 25, dust to dust, and your friends will laugh at you. (probably)

Or - and this is true - they could just perma-ban gold buyers / bots.
Software exists that would instantly identify repetitive actions that all bots utilize. They’d be banned before they reached level 2.
Blizzard doesn’t care about bots. Let’s just face it.

If you require BFD raid to progress, you will pretty much remove many casuals (thus less subs, thus less interest from Blizz to continue SoD). Additionally, no one is going to raid BFD once phase 2 starts.
If you require a quest chain to do it, you’ll lose many (not as many) casuals with the same result. Additionally, bots will easily complete the quest chain.
Similar to BFD requirements, low level dungeons will be more difficult to get groups for once phase 2 drops.
There really isn’t a way to require an attunement without screwing over a very large portion of the player base. Those casuals pay the bills, so you’d be effectively killing SoD (Blizz won’t continue pouring resources into something that doesn’t make money).
If this is an attempt to get rid of bots - attunement isn’t the way. We all know what the solution will be.

Listen man, why are you worried about that? Afraid you won’t make it?
Casuals can play retail and fly around on some dragon or whatever they are doing.
Meanwhile you my friend will be collecting phat loot, perhaps breast feeding a kid on milk from some random workplace fridge.

How can someone be so awful to not go at least 5/7? Like how would these people even make it to level 25 to begin with?

yea, but the OP’s proposal wouldn’t require hiring x amount of new employees. It’s something that could combat botting while working within limited resources allotted to the SoD dev team.

We have a vested interest in how much Blizzard is paying someone at around 50k per year.

Why? Everyone is going to RUSH to level 40. They’ll be bored senseless near 8 weeks.
They could even start the attunement process during one phase and have the other half in the second phase.
Bet most players have a quest log full completed quests and a bank full of items that start quests. The rush has already started, just suggesting to slow it down a little.
This would enable gate keeping for phase 2 far more than it current is for current BFD grouping. Casual players would be left in the dust by the twitch crowd and tryhard playerbase and these players would make money of casuals in BFD boost clears.
Watch this happen and come back for the “I told you so’s”
Nah I’d rather not have to do dumb quest quest chains or a old raid to level alts
I don’t think this is a horrible idea. Making people do BFD for it is silly but some sort of attunement that makes it more difficult on bots would be fine. Could even make it a fun quest that rewards a rune.

Id rather it be a quest over clearing bfd 6 times. I dont care if the quest takes you in to bfd. The ony attunement is one of the best quest lines ever made.
So the reverse is how retail has been run, catch up mechanics and nerfing of content. Pretty sure this is why there is a classic at all, there is enough of us that like the old ways. The old guard mantra was “here is the content, now go get it.” Attunement would add to that.
Once players out level the raid no doubt the inverse will happen. Bots will run BFD at 50/60 and heck maybe even at 40.
I don’t see how alt raids would be bad, or unfun. Rushing into the new content with a new character is probably not the best. (Look at retail.)
