It’s clear that SoD is here to shake things up within the realms of Classic, no it’s not Vanilla nor Classic+ but a “what if” version going off Vanilla, classes get Runes essentially giving them new Skills or Talents from other expansions or even classes.
Druids getting Windfury, Hunters Blessing of Kings, Paladins Crusader Strike, Warlock/Shamans Tank, Mages Heal the list of changes are great and truly is as Blizzard said “Shake the Meta”.
But why stop there, it’s clear in every version of WoW people are still wandering and asking for class combinations with races which aren’t available and I think SoD is the perfect time to do so. Even go as far as adding unique Races that were originally meant for Horde and Alliance respectively Ogres and High Elves.
One of many example of a race/class combinations,
What if Undead or Night Elves could be Paladins? Which I’d argue be the two very still do this day requested combination.
What if Ogres became playable on Horde like they originally were intended in vanilla?.
Now we all know SoD isn’t permanent and when its course runs to an end our characters have the option to move to the classic server, which I’m assuming be the Classic Cataclysm server but the solution is when this happens, whenever it does, those Races and unique class race combinations just have to race change back to a class/race combination that’s within Cataclysm for their Faction.
Example, say you’re finally that Night Elf Paladin, if you choose to take your character to Cataclysm, you’ll have to Race change to Human/Dwarf or Draenei as that’s what’s available, same goes to Undead Paladins they’ll have the option to go Tauren or Blood Elf.
This can work in tandem with or/if they add unique races to factions within SoD be it on launch or in future seasons, when transferring back they’ll have to race change to an appropriate race within their faction that makes sense to the appropriate class choice.
Now I’m not here to argue “ohh Night Elf Paladins shouldn’t happen” or whatever race or race combinations you dislike or should happen.
I’m just mentioning that this be a great way to give many players finally a opportunity to really play what they like for the limited time of SoD and then slide back into classic seamlessly, just do the same thing you’ve done like in Hardcore, when they create a race or race/class combination that isn’t available in Cataclysm a warning if they transfer their character they’ll have to Race change to what’s appropriate.
I personally think SoD is the time for this to actually happen, I think honestly be awesome to see Gnome Paladins. Now’s the time to truly “Shake the Meta” beyond the scale of just crazy class design.
Edit, TLDR: Race/Class combinations that don’t exist in Cataclysm have to Race change to an appropriate Race within their faction when/if transferring over at the end of SoD.
