Every so odd year blizz does a charity pet. very nice idea yet sometimes community gets fickle about who the company chooses to partner with.
I suggest Ronald McDonald House. it is a key supporter of children and there families going through a hard times.
To go into a personal example. My brother was born with a heart condition where his valves where on opposite ends. Surgeries where a constant and through great charities like ronald mcdonalds house ( and many othersd ) we where able to withstand the crushing bills. To provide a example of how bad the bills where, A active sailor for the navy and a dental hygenist couldnt withstand the financial pressure. In this chaos allot of charities helped us out.
Ronald McDonald House gave us three months of our rent paid, reimbursements for any time off my mother had to take ( Navy dad was on the boat ), assisted in applying to the " Make a Wish " program, Free hotel during surgeries, and gave us grocery assistance.
This charity helps. id love if they where chosen as a charity for this years pet.
Ronald McDonald charity raised $162,000,000 in 2023. They don’t need the $1 million from a charity pet fund raiser. I think Blizzard should find smaller charities that meet audit criteria and blow them open.
Based on the flood of posts over the last couple days, one focusing on mental health issues would be a good choice…especially one focusing on men’s mental health.
valid yet id say any support is good to that charity.
1 million or even 500k would go a long way for the people they are assisting.
A charity educating people about mental health and correcting common misheld beliefs about ‘crazy people’ would be nice. Plus that helps get you better mental health care.
Helped my brother and his wife a lot when their premature twins were born. Was lucky to have their help.
Blizzard has, somewhat controversially and famously, promised to hire like four women for every man in the hiring process. They just wrote an entire expansion that kills off, ships away or minimalizes anything remotely resembling masculinity and has force-fed us another string of girl-boss saviors and villains akin to a Disney focus-group.
I wouldn’t hold your breath hoping that this company contributes towards male anything, let alone highly stigmatized male mental health.
Blizzard would probably support any number of LGBTQ initiatives, however. Also worthy, mind you.
You got a source for that, champ?
i hope they have a good life and i hope you spoil them well with delicious treats
Can’t spoil perfection!
Nothing you will consider satisfying. It was from a leaked 2017 internal memo from Blizzard’s President Mike Morhaime indicating that their (at the time) 21% female employee rate was unsatisfactory and to push a new initiative to hire three women for every male from 2018-2020 to meet diversity quotas. Game Informer wrote a scathing article about it at the time, but has since removed it from their website. They then hired a new chief diversity officer, Kristen Hines, at Activision to increase representation through promotions and hiring quotas (although they would never admit this publically). Hines gave quite a few interviews on the issue around 2022. Blizzard’s share of female employees went from 19% to 24% to 26% between 2019 and 2022 and is expected to be even higher now.
Wow, even higher than 26%? That’s crazy, men are definitely non-existent there.
Not sure if it’s true or not, but I do regularly see women featured in Blizzard’s dev videos of recent years. Since like Legion I’d say.
The old videos were all men, always. They have pivoted a bit at least.
I’d love to be a fly on the wall, hearing what happens internally after all that drama from years ago. Juicy stuff I bet.
On-topic, I’d support this charity idea for WoW.
Correct. Data indicates nearly 92% of comp science graduates were male at that time. The industries of game development and programming as well as cybersecurity and network administration are overwhelmingly male dominated. Blizzard’s 26% female employee ratio is not proportional to the industry. Not even close, actually. Just like nursing is about 94% female, dental hygenists are about 98% female, diesel engine mechanics are about 96% male. There are numerous studies you can find on google talking about gender dynamics in extremely lopsided industries. Computer science and video game development, included.
But we’re derailing a thread about charity. Message me in-game if you’d like to continue the conversation.
RMH has helped several friends and relatives. I’d certainly be ok with it.
Lets see. The WoW Union has 300 employees…so that would come to 78 females and 222 males.
Yup. No men at all.
I think he missed my heavy sarcasm.
How about Blizz uses the money they made on EA to donate to the charity and then Blizz just gives everyone a pet anyway?
if they said that was the idea, id have bought EA.
CEO Bobby Kotick received a $154 million bonus in 2021 amidst the worst sexual harassment scandal in industry history. And even today, is given millions and millions a year in compensation.
One of Bobby’s bonuses would match Ronald McDonald’s yearly company finances.
