Remember those mounts that aren’t really mounts but actual transformations?
Vial of the Sands
Heart of Nightwing (the panther, not the Superhero)
Stuff like that.
How about a mount that transforms you into the flying people of each covenant?
Kyrian - You turn into an ascended Kyrian.
Necrolord - You turn into a Lich
Night Fae - You turn into a Faerie
Venthyr - You turn into a Stoneborn
It doesn’t need to be exactly those 4 things, but I think it would be neat. Like you’ve joined your covenant so hard that you can even become them!

I, personally, would like one of those blue people to grab me by the face and fly me around.

Just kinda awkwardly hover around everywhere
Classic necrolords stuff
Because you become the mount, both those mounts I used as an example allow for a passenger.
No reason why this couldn’t work like that!
In the case of the Kyrian transformation, it should carry you by the face as the Kyrian always do.
Venthyr should hold the passenger by the bottom lol

I would love it but I got zero interaction when I created a similar post so it’s safe to say people are worried about other things.
shrugs
I love the mounts we are getting for flying through covenants in 9.1. They are very well designed and I can’t wait to get them. In my opinion, Blizzard has done a great job with those mounts.
However, given how invested they are in covenants I thought they would be a tad more ambitious in doing something different. Maybe I had high expectations. But this is sort of what I had thought they would do.
Every mount has a questline which explains why you got it.
Kyrian
Quest name: Secrets of the Ascended
The Archon and the Kyrians have recognized your value to the Shadowlands and have requested your presence at the Elysian Hold where they shall present to you a part of their power which allows you to walk the path of the Ascended.
Mount Model: You don the clothes of the Ascended and Wings sprout from your back allowing you to fly in the same way that Kyrian Ascended do. You do not turn blue.
Necrolords
Quest name: Patchwerk’s Specialty
Baroness Draka has formally requested that you meet her and the Necrolords at the Seat of the Primus to forge a rune of power onto your very soul which shall harness the power of the necrolords itself.
Mount model: You transfigure yourself into a skeletal dragon with the Primus’ power flowing thrrough your entire body.
Night Fae
Quest name: Ysera’s gambit
The denizens of Ardenweald have gathered at the behest of Ysera at the Winter Queen’s abode and have petitioned her to grant you the ultimate form by offering part of their essences as tribute. Ysera herself has chosen to supply part of her own lifeforce to strengthen the bond.
Mount model: Ysera’s dragon form in the Night Fae Soulshape
Venthyr
Quest name: First Sword of Revendreth
Prince Renethal and General Draven have been impressed by your dedication to the rebuilding of Revendreth and have conjured up a potion courtesy of Theotar’s mad experiments and await your presence near Castle Nathria itself to bestow the ultimate gift of Revendreth
Mount model: Shapeshift into a Half Nathrezim Half Plaguebat allowing you to harness the true power of Revendreth
I realize this is way too ambitious but I had hoped they did something like this
Maybe it’s that.
Though I notice your post is quite long with lots of words. My experience with GD is that unless your cause is REALLY popular you shouldn’t make long wordy posts because most people don’t read them.

That’s because it explains the origins of the mounts and adds flavour text to make it more in line with the lore.
Like Legion’s class hall mount
i like how the others have wings…
And then there is just a lich casually floating…

Liches trade their legs for power, that’s why they learn how to fly.

well they are missing out quite the power by removing legs…
specially the round-houd kick kinda power

Liches are like “I’d rather have leggos than legs!”

I’m all for these flavor additions. It’s just I’m wondering where their priorities are now. It seems they’ve abandoned customizations now, and are rather bare bones releasing stuff with really basic gameplay loops for 9.1 that it’s clear they are WAY behind.
Second expansion in a row. This team and company need a shake up.
I’m for the idea in OP and Dalfurane.
I also wish they’d utilize glyphs more to give people more options.
In a magic filled world, i would think wings would be the anamoly
