I had actually thought they were going to be updating the zones bit by bit over years like they started to do in BFA with Arathi and the Warfront, but like most things Blizz has done since WoD, they abandoned a good idea instead of improve it.
And the phasing of zone changes as quests progressed was great, but surely repairing the damage should have been a part of it.
I agree the old world shouldnât have remained static from version 4 of the game all the way past 11. An issue is it seems most people donât spend time in the vanilla world. You get a smoother experience leveling through more modern expansions, so thatâs where the majority spend their time. Those of us who played for over 20 years are in the minority. Blizzard doesnât have any incentive to revamp those zones. Personally Iâd rather the devs focus on new content.
I absolutely loved the rep phasing used Wotlk - Cata and the daily rep hubs. I wish theyâd go back to that system, because I canât find myself caring about any rep through the renown system. By the time I unlock stuff, itâs obsolete, and thereâs zero stories involved.
And they could easily use the phasing to show things being rebuilt. Imagine a rep/daily grind and watching the dam in the Wetlands get put back together, for example. Would be awesome.
Iâm seriously considering abandoning retail once classic MoP hits.
Well, they knew well enough in BFA that if they want us visiting the old world again to just put new content there. Thatâs all they have to do. New Blizzard is cheap and lazy. Thatâs all there is to it.
What if they re-redid the entire Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor, so that each zone was as big or bigger than the new zones weâve been getting? Sure, thatâd be a colossal amount of work, and theyâd sure want to change the systems so that zones stop becoming obsolete (something I wish theyâd do anyhow), but imagine if the world was closer in size to how it is supposed to be?
Then again, imagine if it was a 1:1 scale, and riding a horse between Brill and Andorhol took a real day or two, lol.
Except you canât play those leveled characters on retail after.
