What I’d like to see is more diverse move sets. You have Scorpid, Leopard Scorpid, Durotar Scorpid, Crunchy Scorpion, Stripe-tail Scorpid, Scorpling… All of which have the exact same move set, just differing breeds and names. The same applies to Snakes, Beetles/Roaches, Rabbits, etc.
BFA did a great job at this, particularly with the wild Frogs and Crabs.

Agreed! I would imagine coming up with balanced moves that don’t wreck the pet battle scene is a challenge though… Would hate to manage that mathematical spreadsheet! LOL

I think the only point in time where you had significant numbers of different pets with the same movepools was when pet battles were first put in. Since then, pets have been pretty diverse as far as movesets go. I’d imagine it will remain like that going forward.

But why not go back an change their move sets? Give the Dung Beetle a different move set from Creepy Crawly, so forth and so on.

Just a guess, but I imagine that creating a new pet with a unique/different moveset is less troublesome than going back and editing an existing pet. Or a dozen existing pets.
It’d be interesting to hear about the creative process, from start to finish, that goes into creating a battle pet though.

Most likely due to it taking extra time. As it stands, the only pets whose movesets have gotten changed have done so because their prior sets were OP, e.g. Pandaren Water Elemental, Teroclaw Hatchling, Graves, etc.
And honestly, I’d rather see more new pets than already-existing ones tweaked, but that’s just me.
I think it’s good because, if you really like a particular pet, you can have a team of 3 of them, without actually having duplicate pets.
Also, different stat balances and whatnot.
