Ice mage & Glacial Spike

I’ve been trying to get more efficient with Glacial Spike by watching my ice icicles closely. You need 5 to cast Glacial Spike but every so often I am clearly displaying 5 icicles and I can’t cast Glacial Spike! I am forced to cast an extra frost bolt before I can cast the spike.
what causes this… is this just LAG ?

Personally never had this issue; I have a graphic WA set that gets like bigger and bigger until I have 5 icicles and I can cast the Spike. I’m not sure if it’s a bug in the prepatch as I’ve opted out of the talent since prepatch landed.

they didn’t remove glacial spike? How do ya’ll enjoy that terrible spell? Literally ruins the fun idea of icicles casting when you lance and not having to be stuck on a long cast time that forces you to have to do x, y, z in a extremely short burst while target is frozen. Idk…maybe I am the only one that hates it.

There are some great WeakAura’s for Glacial Spike, and it sounds like you would benefit a lot from using one. The one I was running for a while in BfA (until the FOrb build became a thing) not only counts the number of icicles, but it flashes when you reach 4 (so you know that after that Frostbolt you can GS) but also changes colour depending on whether you have a BF proc.

It might have been part of a larger Mage package, so you might need to get that and just disable the parts you don’t need.

Depends on the delay between combat but the icicles each have a like 30 second duration between refresh.

Think of loading a cartridge with ammo and as you put in the bullets you have 30 seconds to use that specific bullet as it’s placed; if you wait too long what can happen is you’ll be building but loosing icicles at the same time, adding a new icicle doesn’t refresh the others.

A lot of this is because if you have Glacial Spike the damage of each icicle is stored and remembered and then all 5 are used and a modifier is applied before eventually Glacial Spike hits.

This is also why sometimes Glacial Spike will do like 10k damage or it might do 22k damage, depending on whether you had spell-power gains during their generation and at the time of sending out the spike.
