ICC gated release schedule

it’s actually to avoid the long raid prog.

they didn’t want people to progress fast, and to frontload progression.

read thru all 4 pages. there were 7 against and 4 pro in total, but 2-3 of the “againsts” about gating were vague as to if referring to the release schedule or the attempts system, and another 2-3 that specifically referred to the attempts system as gating, so to me its close enough to 50/50 in that regard alone. but the thing is, that whole thread was started after all the gating was over, and there were at least another 50 reviews that did not feel compelled to list it as a negative. at least per that thread, seems pretty clear that at the time only a small percentage of the wow population had a problem with it - roughly 6 out of around 60.

And for clarity, if they tried to gate it over 9 weeks in the current game I too would concede that’s a bit much.

I’m not trying to get anyone to concede the point here. I have my opinion and everyone is free to have their own opinions and preferences in the matter.

There are reasons why Blizzard never did a release like that again and why it’s only applicable to LFR now.

It was a bad idea and they had to make it last longer because Cata was taking forever to finish.

I doubt blizzard cares and if you dont like the changes unsub. The fact that u are complaining about the changes in wrath is laughable when even classic has changes to it.

The game is fine the way it is if they hadnt introduced H++ dungeons would have never got done and even the betas are mind numbing boring.

But they allow folks to gain gear they wouldnt necessarily obtain and allows raiders to fill in gaps with gear that never dropped for them.

It also allows players to have multiple characters geared for current content allowing them to fill in roles their guild may need or to do gdkps with.

ICC not being gated is fine but instead of a LK klll i think you should have to kill each boss on normal before being able to do the heroic version.

What benefit would I see from gated ICC content? More weeks spending 30min in TOTGC hoping for my cloak to finally drop?

What increase in enjoyment of the game comes from not having access to content?

I can understand the gating when it was new but I would say the majority of the players in wotlk have done the content and want to do it again not be beholden to some artificial time gate.

Time gating is possibly the worst concept in gaming. It says no matter how much you play, no matter how good you are you can only progress so far until the next week. It creates the illusion of content.

Almost every single “bad” retail system has time gating involved.

Why should you need to kill a comparatively easy version before the hard version?

i was there, you were entirely alone in this feeling, nobody thought it was a good thing.

The only reason the wings were time gated was that the blizzard dev team was a literal skeleton crew while they worked on cata, and they needed more time. There is no value to gating this out.

This awful forum and its awful users with their terrible ideas my god, i havent come here in months, and the first thread i click on is some smooth brain high on nostalgia trying to justify bad game design because thats how they remember it.

I hope nobody who is a game dev ever listens to OP’s opinions about literally anything to do with videogames, ever, its been awhile since i saw someone put soo much effort into such a terrible argument. We want content, i want ICC out tomorrow, i don’t want a gate and to be stuck doing 4 bosses for a month like in OG release, and neither does anyone else, rethink the value of your opinions in future champ.

Best idea for content releases?

I’m thinking you lett blizzard do their job. Read the the hundred million posts they have a million times over. And let them decide what they think is best for the player base as it now.

Players should respond to the things they hate about wow the same we always have.

Quit paying them 15 a month.

Other option. Keep paying the 15. And deal with it.

its been 14+ years. while its not new, it still feels pretty fresh and new to me.

the raids themselves are timegated. they spread them out into different patches. they give you time to gear up thru them and prog thru them and farm them before the next raid comes out.

i can agree with you on that for sure. i don’t think anyone wants it that extreme. but 3 weeks? not so bad. i pose this question then.

would you rather have:

A. all of ICC drop in one lump on oct 17th?

OR

B. have a pre-patch with dungeons and changes on sept 26th, first wing on oct 3rd, plague and blood on oct 10th, and frostwing and LK on oct 17th.

one or the other, which you like? i like the 2nd option.

Absolutely A.
Though I wouldn’t mind if the dungeons and RDF came out a week early.
But for the raid itself, definitely all at once.

Im looking forward to it being released all at once.

I never cleared it on 0% back then and i wasnt in one of the 6 guilds that cleared it at 5%. I also haven’t done it on a private server.

Gated release gave a lot of time for guilds to get full t10 out. This 0% version of icc we’re getting may be the same as 0% back then but they had weeks of 25m gearing before heroic was even open.

So im looking forward to it being at 0% buff heroic week 1.

I expect Icc will be cleared on the first day, but Im pretty sure anyone that wants it to be gated wont be clearing 25m heroic week 1.

that’s for sure.

the choice was either A or B. both get you complete access to the full raid by 17 oct. B just gets you the dungeons, changes, RDF and part of the raid weeks earlier.

Which was why I said A first.
I’d rather A over B, but wouldn’t mind a combination like I said.

Does Beef Bar raid in retail? I find it kinda funny that they take Classic raiding so seriously when it’s basically raiding on training wheels.
