I’m convinced that it accelerated the faction balance issues, all while being one part of the server balance issues. People were willing to reroll horde to alliance. People claim this wouldn’t have happened but others said they would. I both saw people do this in Classic and can pull up threads. If free horde to alliance transfers had happened instead of (or before) HvH things could be significantly different right now.
I’ve also found the battlegrounds to be very bad and not fun right now 90% of the time because one side tends to give up within the first minute and very few games are competitive/fun. Plus almost everyone who wanted FvF BGs so bad brags on here now about raid logging and they don’t even touch battlegrounds so why did they even care in the first place? Oh and also I leveled an alliance in the height of the BG queues and got ganked for what felt like HKs about 5 times. I got killed for mining about 20 times.
As for your talk about the server stuff, I don’t now how you can act like this is a good thing for people who want a Classic game not Retail, Retail is widely known to have one of the worst and most toxic MMO “communities” out there if you can even call it that… and they also took away PVP servers a long time ago with Warmode.
I had fun for two years anyway so that’s how I look at it even if the experience now is sub-par.
People play what they want to play, and I think its a good thing for people to have the freedom to choose what they want to play in a ‘fantasy’ world. Whatever their reason. Faction imbalance was and has always, been a thing – due to perceived pvp power. Iirc…in Wrath it skews heavily toward alliance due to EMFH. And then in cata goes back again. And then in WoD alliance were winning nearly 75% of bgs it was comical the imbalance. Arena teams and being able to play with friends plays into this.
You will never get balance in bgs
Not as much as they would. And also this is probably due to the low honor gained in bgs. People can get more honor in world pvp alot of times with the exception of AV weekend.
I see how making HvH available does exasperate the server imbalance, but that problem would exist anyway.
And there is no downside to it for Alliance other than perception that no one wants to play alliance unless they can queue faster in a bg. I don’t see that as a rewarding and meaningful incentive. Play alliance because you like it. Thats why I play Horde.
I agree, it probably did. But giving people a choice is a good thing. What if you had to play alliance…would you continue to play? if so would it be as fun? I play for fun, I cannot speak for everyone though.
HvH BGs were sooo freakin ridiculous in hindsight. we just kind of accepted it as an inevitability, but i knew in the back of my mind that this was a death knell for TBC. and now look at the state of the game. lol
HvH BG’s are a symptom of how badly blizzard mismanaged faction balance and server populations in general. They made too many servers up front instead of leveraging layers, they failed to try to enforce faction balance which they could have done early on by faction locking character creation and or having faction specific queues.
The 58 boost, the botting, the gold selling, the Warp Stalker mount, Blizzard’s lawsuit, the amount of bugs every time they add ‘new content’ (they manage to bug out the old content too somehow), Blizzard’s silence on the forums/feedback, Blizzard’s abysmal customer service, abuse of the mass report/flag system both in-game and on the forums, all the dumb ‘Politically Correct’ changes into Vanilla and now BC and other retail expansions (such as the bowl of fruit, the name/title/achievement changes). Or how about when they catered to the Horde and added a Legion retail pvp feature (HvH BGs), absolutely ridiculous. They don’t care about server balance, they want people to buy more server transfers and boosts $$$$.
Blizzard clearly don’t care about the game or community at all anymore, their actions speak volumes. They will have to pull off a miracle to get me to come back for any of their products in the future.
Overall faction balance doesn’t matter because most people don’t pvp. You need to look at faction balance between those that do pvp. And battlegrounds definitely aren’t won and lost because of racials but individual fights are. I can tell you when I queue up against alliance in arenas or battlegrounds I have a much better time fighting. My ccs actually work.
