I would play FFXIV if it had decent PvP and wPvP

Anyone else feel this way?

Why is wow the only mmo with decent pvp (and it’s not even that good) We have wPvP with zone objectives, great battleground design, and Arenas

I have tried MMO’s ranging from ESO and FFXIV to Guild Wars to Maplestory. None of them offer the kind of PvP wow does. My question is this. WHY?!

Why can’t we have a good MMO with pvp combat? WTF. FFXIV is a great game, but I stopped playing as soon as I saw how awful the pvp was. If they changed their pvp system to be more in line with wow (pvp servers, no gimped abilities, wPvP objectives) I would cancel my wow sub and play FF in a heartbeat. To me, the ability to kill or be killed by another player in the world adds a huge amount of depth to the game.

Come on FFXIV, you actually could have killed wow here, but decided to ignore a huge potential aspect of the game for what I can only assume is the fear of balancing the classes.

No.

Try Black Desert, it has world PVP and you can kill anyone you want for looking at you funny.

WoW’s PvP is in the “fine” category for me. It’s not awful, but it’s not amazing either. If I want a PvP focus, I wouldn’t go for an RPG based on character progression in the first place.

I tried black desert and I enjoyed it for 5 minutes until I found out about their streetfighter-esque combo system. I didn’t like the idea of having to remember combo moves in order to cast different spells. Seemed like weird restriction to me for an RPG so I stopped playing.

If you have a PVP itch, try something else entirely. That’s what I ended up doing. I play Overwatch, SW: Battlefront 2, and Splatoon 2. Guild Wars 2 is another option with pretty good PVP.

Those arena style games are good but not what I’m looking for. Guild wars 2 pvp is small 5 v 5 battles, nothing like what wow offers. ESO has larger battles but the whole thing just feels wonky as hell to me. I need action bars and a spell book, I hate being limited to 5 spells or whatever. I want to spend months building my character up to see my hard work pay off by smashing another player’s head in. It’s rewarding a satisfying to see the fruits of your labor pay off. Arena style games just hand that too you, and leave the rest up to pure skill.

GW2 has larger battles, not just 5v5.

Didn’t think they did. GW2 pvp is great I will definitely look into that

I don’t think you realize how rich the PVP options in GW2 are. Go look at their Wiki and just glance at the PVP section.

Hopefully D4 includes a robust wPvP system.

I get that not everyone wants to be vulnerable to a gank, but D3 pvp was a letdown.

I don’t. I’ve enjoyed pvp over the years in WoW but it is always something I did when I wasn’t doing most anything else.

I’d wager that it is just too much to balance. I mean look at WoW and how many specs and now borrowed powers they have to account for and how they don’t get it close… like ever.

Might be unpopular but not every game needs pvp and pvp in mmorpgs should always just be a side thing to do when there is down time between doing pve stuff. Fixing super unbalanced things maybe but most of the time just letting it go how it goes.

FFXIV isn’t for everyone. I recently started playing and I love it but then I’m into RPG games and I’m strictly a PVE player in all games I play.

From what little I know about FF I would not recommend it to PVP players.

I didn’t go into FFXIV for the PvP. It’s nice to do every now and then but its only reason for existence is to be able to earn glamours and cosmetics.

Which is fine. It’s not quite competitive but it also gives you a reason to do it.
