The thing is, i have several difficulties in WoW that seem very difficult to overcome.
But the main thing is not being able to play melee, but i really like warriors and rogues.
I’ve tried a few times. I get completely lost visually in the middle of fights, especially in DG. My character disappears with the mobs, i don’t know where I’m stepping, I can’t rotate because in a matter of seconds I’m far from the target.
WoW has an issue in my opinion that we have too many things at the same time and that makes things very difficult. I could be wrong, correct me.
Most of my friends have a few months of WoW and have mastered the melee classes and I never managed to.
I also have a hard time memorizing what to do with class passive skills when they activate.
Did you go through this too? How did you get over it?
Another question: It seems to me that to be a good player it is necessary to use many addons, elvui, weakauras, among others. The game guide community treat these addons as religions. And I feel like I’ll never be good if I don’t use them. I hate the visual pollution of addons, i only use DBM and Details and quests, rares and chests addons.
I never had much of an issue with seeing where I am in the middle of a fight. I kinda have the opposite problem if anything, caster for me is a huge pain in the *** because of having to balance movement with casting, some fights, especially in dungeons you just can’t stand still for more than a second and a half lol. Of course, melee you often lose damage due to having to move away from boss, but it’s a lot simpler to me.
That’s really what it boils down to. The more you play melee the more you’ll kinda just know where you are and what’s going on.
As for passives or procs or w/e - you don’t need the addons, but they can definitely help if they’re not overwhelming you even more. You don’t need Elvui, but if you get weak auras and then go to wago io and look for your class/spec you’ll find some useful stuff to help you track things.
By only using DBM and Details, you are setting yourself up for failure. The reason you lose yourself in the middle of fights is because you look away from your character down to the bottom of your screen to pick which next button to click then try to look back and struggle to find it. If you really want help I can help you but right now your UI is hindering your performance.
I believe there is an option in the interface where you can set a yellow glow around your character, makes it much easier to see.
And if you need something to help track buffs and procs, most people use weak auras cause you can get strings that are already built… but they often have a ton of extra junk you may not care about. I prefer Tell Me When for tracking - you have to set it up yourself but its rather straightforward and you can keep it very minimal.
You don’t need much besides DBM/Bigwigs+ little wigs and a few weakauras cause there’s a few things that are not tracked by the base ui. Like my shaman had a Weakaura to track my legendary buff(An Icon shows up when the buff is up).
Outside of that I just use the base ui. I’ve gotten CE and KSM just like that. You don’t need to go crazy on addons. So I’ll have to disagree with the above poster about setting yourself up for failure.
It’s basically all addons baked into one. You can use it for boss abilities and timers, you can use it to customize UI etc. Think of it as the steam workshop if you use that.
Zoom your camera all the way out. if you dont have the addon advanced interface options, grab it and set the camera view distance to 2.6.
This will make your character “smaller” but will give you better perception of whats going on.
Get used to being right up to the back of your target. As melee because of parry you never want to be infront of mobs unless you have to. If you’re in a dungeon, mark your tank or know whete he is standing and just position behind those mobs. There is some good weakauras for dungeon abilities that attach to nameplates so you can see when frontals are coming on trash mobs and move accordingly. Its okay to step out if you habe to, you’re better off doing no damage for a second or two than dying.
Dungeons yes lots going on. But knowing whats important is key. Like watching for important interrupts like curse of obliteration in halls, or the frontals that happen. Knowing what is important will narrow down how much you actually have to worry about as melee.
A good ui just makes things easier to see and can streamline visually data presented. Weakauras make it possible gor so much like abilities right below your character, important dungeon notifications, debuffs you have etc. Personally i have used atrocity ui since he released it and i can honestly say that its got everything you could ever need in it. Including trigger noises for important abilities mobs are doing.
For example, I always play melee, but when I move over to my warlock I have a harder time. I either stand in bad to finish casting, or interrupt myself to run out of bad.
I almost always run out of bad so at times it feels like I’m rarely casting. Sometimes it’s annoying.
But on the other hand, running out of swirlies on the ground is usually easier than sprinting for dear life to avoid AoE cleave
