Technically, Thrall was a stillborn…so he already died. I wonder where baby souls go in the Shadowlands?
I think most babies and children wouldn’t fit into any of the realms we know. There’s probably somwhere special for them.
From reading the NEFPA posts, it seems a lot of cry babies were sent to Ardenweald by Elune, and inadvertently diverted to the Maw.
Those aside, from the IRL babies I have met, they seem to belong in Maldraxxus.
It depends on who the Arbiter is, I guess. Maybe Pelagos would make a realm for babies. Or at least a section of a realm. Maybe a Maldraxxus Day Care center.
A bunch of murderous baby warriors is a terrifying prospect
What you just described sounds like a pack of wild gnomes.
Change my mind.
Omg that image hun is the stuff of nightmares
I’ve met a few toddlers who could make it big in Maldraxxus.
…More seriously, I imagine they’re sorted on their personality and potential. And there are a lot of afterlives we, in theory, haven’t seen.
Temper tantrum in a meat suit with giant cleavers and hooks, in a flying ziggurat with giant lasers.
They explained this already.
Anima is currency based, based on accomplishments. Children don’t have accomplishments so thier anima is useless and they cease to exist, or thier anima is used as mulch.
This was the entire justification for Sylvanas breaking the Shadowlands.
but there is still a soul there. Anima =/= Soul
Purgatory? If they’re going by a fairy-tale idea, then children go to an area of their choosing based on who-/what-ever criteria’s allow it.
That’s the positive version I’m going with. Fairies steal babies to replace them sometimes. Trolls too.
shrugs
Remember there are an “infinite” number of after life realms. The four realms we interact with are the service realms, so presumably a baby spirit would go to somewhere to one of those realms, perhaps to await reincarnation.
oh god, what a call back! I asked this question in first grade Catholic school and was horrified. I thought of all these poor babies floating in a long , vertical, misty cloud with no one to hold them!
Hopefully they’re hanging around some of those sparkling ponds and rivers in Bastion.
thats …wrong on every base, we know from an interview that children/babies are send to…“Caring afterlife”…
Uh, do you know which interview this was?
I don’t remember that interview at all. I remember Steve saying specifically that souls of children with no anima have no currency.
They are basically worthless souls in the Shadowlands.
That would explain so much about Darion.
Ideally they would go to a place like the Queen’s Conservatory Garden in Ardenweald for soul healing and then reincarnation.
If a baby is stillborn, did it ever have a soul? When does the soul first start to exist? Is it at conception? Do Kyrians take souls of misscarried/aborted babies to the Arbiter?
I don’t know, but I would assume the soul exists prior to birth, otherwise we end up with further questions. As pointed out by the OP, Thrall was technically stillborn, or at least he was in the Warcraft movie, I’m not sure about in canon game lore. Darion was also stillborn according to Alexandros, miraculously revived after Alexandros dunked him in the icy stream outside their family home. If their souls didn’t exist prior to their birth, where did they come from when they “survived” being stillborn? Thrall, at least in the movie, was saved by Gul’dan, who of course is a warlock and can do all sorts of things with souls, but Alexandros didn’t even use any of his paladin abilities to save Darion, just dunked him in a stream in a panic and prayed something would happen.
