I wonder if affliction is due

For an overhaul?
Maybe have a bit more upfront damage?
Maybe increase the tick rates?
Maybe allow unstable affliction to be permanent in PVE?

The spec could use a little love.

They should just delete it.

It’s cruel to keep getting hopes up only to let everyone down once again. Blizz just cannot balance DoT specs.

Affliction is one of my favorite specs of all time. Unfortunately, Blizzard can’t get it right. Here’s to hoping a rework fixes the specs overlying issues.

And all the other broken specs at that. Poor Frost DK’s, Arms Warriors, etc, etc.

Makes me wonder if PvP, M+, and raiding are giving them too much to balance around. In that case, each mode should get it’s own sub-talent trees to work with. They’ll never be able to balance the game in 3 different modes with the same tree/abilities.

Like an evoker buff class, they could make it a curse class. Instead of doing damage they increase the damage mobs take or reduce the amount they do. Pretty much what they do now but better.

Then we have the Aug problem where meters don’t work and we all know meters > everything.

Personally I would like a way to build up soul shards better instead of RNG or relying on the target dying while you have Unstable Affliction or are using Drain Soul on them.

Delete malefic rapture and make dot spreading easier.

As a long term Affliction lover. Affliction needs 4 fundamental changes to the spec.

  1. A reshuffling of our talent trees. Currently Affliction suffers heavily from most of our really good ST being mutually exclusive with our AoE. Make Doom Blossom compete with something else instead of being mutually exclusive with the other talent I can’t be bothered logging in to check what it’s name is. Also the center of our tree really sucks. Either make Drain Life good or get rid of Inevitable Demise, don’t keep my hopes up.

  2. Make AoE Agony less of a pain. Right now we have Vile Taint that’s good, but the duration of Agony and the cooldown of Vile Taint create a really annoying situation where in multi-target situations you’ll manually refresh Agony and then like 3 seconds later refresh it again by casting vile taint. This can be fixed by extending Agony, reducing the CD of Vile Taint, or making a mechanic that can reliably extend/refresh Agony duration in multi target situations.

  3. Make Soul Shard generation consistent. Affliction is the only spec for Warlocks (and probably in the game) where it’s resource is competely RNG. For a brief period, we had Life Tap back and while the ability itself was practically unusable since it tapped Soul Leech (and we often have no Soul Leech up cause we’re talking damage), a reliable shard generator made the spec feel great.

  4. Nuke Siphon Life from orbit. The ability sucks and is only useful cause Rupture and Darkglare care about number of DoTS not whether those dots are actually good.

I dont think its because they cant balance DoT specs. I think its moreso they do not play the specs. It took them almost the entire expansion to fix the soul swap bug for example. Another example is that people explained to them that the issue with aff in dungeons is their ST dungeon profile and instead of fixing that they did an aura buff and buffed AoE.
