I wish they would borrow dungeon design from FF14

Ahh, FFXIV players.

You could give them a glowing button that says, “Push here to complete dungeon and claim simulated rewards”…

They would still come to the WoW forums or Reddit and complain that the WoW dungeon design is far below that of FFXIV.

I could get behind trash mobs contributing to some sort of currency, or reputation.

Tell me you don’t do challenging dungeon content w/o telling me you don’t do challenging dungeon content.

Even low to mid mythic keys have trash mobs with varying mechanics that all respective roles need to watch out for.

Necrotic Wake is a great example of that and choosing what you want to tackle and how can vary from week to week and on party composition.

If you want dumbed down simple dungeons then just play FF14. (Or just do heroic dungeons) Either way is valid.

Friends could only come with me so often, and oftentimes they had other things they wanted to do besides spam dungeons or raids ad nauseum. Considering that was the only real ‘lasting’ content the game had, it was inevitable to be paired up with strangers in DF runs.

And golly gee, the FFXIV playerbase sure hated being asked to put in the bare minimum effort towards team-based activities!

Thankfully I’m not forced to run dungeons ad nauseum in WoW as my only true lasting content, and have plenty of overworld stuff to do. It sure has felt better to enjoy my time doing stuff in an MMO again, since I quit FFXIV. :dracthyr_tea:

Honestly with 14’s dungeons filling a similar role as WoW’s world quests in the core gameplay loop, making WoW dungeons like 14’s would straight up remove a gameplay niche from the game, not add to it, so I don’t really see how WoW would benefit from turning their unique iteration of mmo dungeons into hallways that make FF13’s look like elden ring.
That said, I do think the visual design of 14’s dungeons is generally better and the soundtrack tends to be better at hyping up the encounter.
But hey, I just have 5.1k hours on 14 and have been playing it since 2017, so what do I know, am I right fellas?

Yes, very immersive.

Hell no. Ffxiv dungeons are pure trash snooze fests. Absolutely no creativity or brain needed there at all.

Do you really want every single dungeon to be exactly the same.

2 packs, 2 packs, boss, repeat.

There’s a reason “Wall to wall” is a thing in ffxiv, because dungeons are so laughable you literally just run forward until you hit a wall and then kill everything.

I wouldn’t call wall-to-wall pulling good dungeon design.

People harp on this dungeon a lot but it was one of the better ones to do because of paying attention to all the poison puddles and other stuff. I wish XIV didn’t dumb down everything over the years. It was already babies first MMO don’t need to vegetablize it lol. HW was the beginning of the end for me.

Even with chances of good BOE’s off trash like they have in raids, people will still choose to skip as much as possible to speed run between bosses. When given the chance they will skip bosses just to get to the end boss or just cherry pick bosses that the leader wants gear off of.

Over the years WoW has really gotten to be more and more a speed run even in the most simplest of content where it should be more about clearing for gear than just rushing to the end boss to queue for the next LFD. The game has gone to hell in how group content is played.

I suspect that parties expecting tanks to have the route memorized is part of the reason so few people tank.

It is much better

FF14 dungeons and raids are much better than wow.

For one it respects your time. Two it is easier on tanks, and more people willing to tank them because of how straight forward they are.

Three the dungeons are a experience, with music and cool boss battles. Wow dungeons? Boring as heck.

Raiding in Final Fantasy is so much more fun.

Being “easier on tanks” is not a good thing.

You literally don’t have to make any decisions at all for FFXiV. It’s 100% linear, no cc or interrupts ever needed.

Literally press W forward until you hit a wall.

Edit: And yes I’m talking about the end game dungeons

Granted, I haven’t done the later dungeons, but the earlier FF14 dungeons are basically like Classic WoW dungeons. The modern player would hate them. They are super basic. If the later expansions are anything like those dungeons it would be met with the exact opposite complaint, the dungeons are too boring and simplistic.

We have a tank shortage in pugs because of the pressure of tanking, learning skips, and just how the community treats them.

That is a good thing, When we skip mobs in wow, we are abusing the bad dungeon design, nothing more or less.

Oh god no.

FFXIV dungeon design is horribly boring.

And wows is not?

It’s not that boring. FFXIV’s dungeons all follow the exact same formula down to the letter. They stopped trying to make them different after heavensward.

You wall-to-wall pull from boss to boss unless there’s some sort of gate in the way. At least wow offers decision-making in what you kill to get there.

What sets WoW apart is the ability to make choices.

Ffxiv doesn’t have talents or ability to change how your class plays. There is one build and no customization.

Removing the ability to make meaningful decisions that impact gameplay is never good imo.

Like imagine a dungeon that is 100% linear and you only have 2-3 abilities to use with absolutely 0 variation.

Yes, but when you go into a dungeon. Are you in it for the trash mobs? No, you are in it for the loot.

Straight forward is much better for what we want, and Final Fantasy dungeons are a experience. With music, and cool boss fights.

Can we really say the same for wow?
