This is probably a repeated topic but I wanna throw my hat in the ring, make my voice heard.
When Evokers were first announced it made sense to me, dragon biology is just different. But after playing one for a bit I have to say I wish I could be any other race, and I don’t really agree that you need dragon biology to do what Dracthyr do.
Everything they do, from flight to fire breath, could easily be done by the other races. It’s simply a question of giving the mortal races access to aspectual magic.
We don’t need physical wings to create them out of magic. But also you could just give the various races wings like with Demon Hunters. I think, just like Death Knights and Demon Hunters (which can and should also easily spread to other races as seen in hearthstone) it would require adding special character creation features, some draconic stuff.
With the very strong rumors that Dracthyr are getting other classes, it would be neat to see Evoker do the same and spread to other races. I want armor, I want to see my character grow and change, even Worgen are allowed that luxury.
The part that I find strange about this is the upcoming lore, minor spoilers I guess, makes it clear that not all Dracthyr are Evokers. Evokers are the cream of the crop top tier spellcasters.
It’s mentioned that there are Dracthyr with other jobs so denying other class combos doesn’t seem to fit with what they’re saying in the actual game itself.
I hate playing Dracthyr just because of their looks; I don’t want to look like I just modeled for Victoria’s Secret when I play a female Dracthyr or skinny weird blood elf male. I want to look like I can hold my weight and feel powerful. Besides, when you’re in visage, it’s supposed to be something you identify as not some race you never wanted to be. Not to mention, the so-called dragons, don’t even look or feel like dragons. Now I understand they’re supposed to function as normal player character fine, but at least as a long cooldown there should be a spell where you turn into a normal-sized dragon and it’s some sort of AOE move.
I wish for that as well. I mentioned it a bit because Hearthstone shows that just about every race can be demon hunters. Yes it’s a non-canon game that does whatever it wants but it at least tries to stick to the baseline rules of the world of Azeroth.
Part of having dragon powers means having been made with the aspects essence. I don’t think we’ll ever see any other race get evokers in the future. Sure, they could make up some lore justification, but that’s not what they’ve decided to go with. If you wanna play an evoker, you gotta play a dracthyr.
And I’m pointing out it’s not just wings, it’s also having a tail, and being made from each of the 5 different aspects. It’s pretty clear blizzard does not see this as something like monks where it can be taught to others. This is inherent to their biology, as you mentioned in your post.
And how you ultimately know it will never happen: Because if they gave evokers to every race, they’d have to give tails to everyone, including worgen.
So even though they have black dragonflight in them aka earth… which would make sense for warriors, they are too lame to do that? Wtf fail of a class that cant even fly… yet have wings,
